ddickinson: I must say, you Germans have a really strange way of looking at things. The amount of censoring almost seems like your government is so scared of people seeing any kind of violence, yet they allow it in so many other mediums.
Well video games weren't really accepted in the early nineties. It's much better now but it has been pretty tough back then.
Thankfully nowadays not that many games get censored anymore. I still hope for a change which makes those riddiculous cuts unnecessary...

ElTerprise: Well the Hitler cameon was cut of course and it were edits due to violence.

ddickinson: I have never understood that attitude with Germans, like banning the Swastika, which is an authentic religious symbol all around the world. Your government can't erase it's past by pretending these things never existed, and blocking them will do no good. Only by acknowledging our pasts can we hope to learn from then, not by ignoring them and almost pretending they never existed.

l0rdtr3k: It's time to hug.

ddickinson: *big hug*

How are you today? Is your girlfriend back with you?
She is.And I'm really pissed that I can't but the Settlers bundle.
Hope there will be another chance at the winter sale or any other weekend sale.

But why all the censoring to begin with? It seems like some of the worse in Europe.

That's good, I bet you are glad about that.

I am sure there will be other chances, the bundles come along quite a lot. I would think that they will appear again during the WInter sale.

It definitely is. The main problem is that video games are not recognized as art which means every depiction of unconstitutional symbolism is prohibited.Media accepted as art enjoy the freedom of arts which allows them the depiction. For example: The Indiana Jones are allowed to show the Swastika whereas the games are not. Which are obvious double standards...

The other problem is the Article 131 (of the penal code) which is about depiction of violence . That article can make it necessary to cut violence in both movies and video games. Even the freedom of arts doesn't matter in that case.

Is all this due to the War, or is it just how Germany is? It does seem strange how some things are allowed and some not. But I guess several places do not class games the same as other forms of entertainment, and there is still some stigma attached to it all.

Well i think a lot those laws are due to the war. The Article 86a which outlaws the use of symbols of unconstitutional organizations was created as part of the denazification in West Germany.
And as you said video games and comics by the way were and to some degree are stigmatised in Germany (atleast in certain parts of the society)

oh and: Don't mention the War! ;)

Friendship is Magic.
Ha, I just sat down to say hello, and saw a tweet from GOG that I won a prize in the Telltale Tale contest. Awesome surprise! I've got one sleepy puppy here with me, and it's time to get a bit of cleaning done while he naps. Today is going incredibly well. I hope you're all having a good day!

Interesting, Germany does have one of the lowest murder rates in the world, though Europe in general is quite low compared to the Americas. :-(

Video games and comics were/are not just stigmatised in Germany, but maybe Germany is one of the worse examples of it.

And don't worry. I mentioned it once, but I think I got away with it. :-)
