EndreWhiteMane: Did all of the 'veterans' here get a Clear Sky code? I still have a spare.
avatar
Stilton: Thanks Endre, I got mine ;-)

How're you doing today? Has all that water drained away?
Still pretty wet but it's settling down.
Hopefully the rain we're yet to get will be light, our river is still full to its banks.
How's Monty Viking today? ;)

superstande: Ah... Xubuntu. Hope you get it to function as you wish! Just careful if you touch the sudo command :) Linuxes are really good these days! And fast!
avatar
ElTerprise: Yes. Well i really want to get into LInux. I'm a real newbie when it comes to that. And i also think that they're quite good :)
I used Lubuntu for a while and liked it. I'm more of a Windows user, but its definitely nice to use a different OS once in a while. I might reinstall it on an external HD (don't like dual booting) simply for the fun of using it.

Feeling good ;-) I found a very nice gift in my 'chat' which is making me smile more than normal. Went for a walk earlier to get some fresh air - there's a river close by and a new path has recently been completed. We Vikings (even the barmy ones) have to be near nature on a daily basis.

I grew up using Windows so i'm mostly a Windows user as well but i want to try something new and until i messes up my Xubuntu installation the dual boot went pretty well. The problem is that i didn't have the time to really learn the commands etc..to use linux on a day-to-day basis.
Hello!
I hope this weekend is being good for everyone.

It can seem a bit convoluted to begin with, but there's a load of help online (lots of Ubuntu derivatives). I'm very raw at it all myself, but I've rarely been in a position where I couldn't find a solution, even if it takes quite a bit of looking.

Going well. Supposedly it was to be winter here... Instead we have clear sky and sun (28ºC) with nearly zero chance of rain where I live. :-)

ps: Look at that! I won another twinkling star! It's so shiny! :-)

Two stars, congratulations!

I like rain myself. I don't think I could stand the heat you have there. Is it humid?

Yes. It's very easy to get help online and more than enough tips and tricks. And there some things i really like about Linux/Xubuntu. Especially the way it handles updates and the package management. I hardly use the Ubuntu update center. It's usually the terminal or Synaptic for me.

And getting started with Linux (especially with Ubuntu) is really not that difficult than years ago.

I'm sure you get the hang of it. It's not that difficult, but yeah takes some studying because it's so different.
I guess it depends what you wish to use it for, and there's all this different ways to customize it.
I didn't like the Libre Office nor many of the music programs, found AbiWord and Clementine to be excellent for my taste. I even just use Clementine on Windows now for music pretty much exclusively.
Haven't seen the recent versions of Ubuntu-variants not sure how they look these days, though.

What don't you like about LibreOffice if i may ask? AbiWord is good bur i definitely prefer LibreOffice which also use on Windows.
I actually don't know Clementine and i used VLC to play music on LInux and on Windows i use Foobar2000 (i wish they had a linux version)

No, it is quite dry. At this time of year we don't see too much rain in my region.

Hmm I have actually forgotten why I don't like it :p
Perhaps AbiWord the choice for its simplicity, and I like that, since I'm trying to get into writing stories (not that I have done much yet) - want to stay away from all the fancy stuff.
I have heard Foobar2000 is good, probably functions at least as well as Clementine. But I like that slice of orange fruit on my desktop, which is the shortcut icon :p
