Stilton: I used Lubuntu for a while and liked it. I'm more of a Windows user, but its definitely nice to use a different OS once in a while. I might reinstall it on an external HD (don't like dual booting) simply for the fun of using it.
ElTerprise: I grew up using Windows so i'm mostly a Windows user as well but i want to try something new and until i messes up my Xubuntu installation the dual boot went pretty well. The problem is that i didn't have the time to really learn the commands etc..to use linux on a day-to-day basis.
I'm sure you get the hang of it. It's not that difficult, but yeah takes some studying because it's so different.
I guess it depends what you wish to use it for, and there's all this different ways to customize it.
I didn't like the Libre Office nor many of the music programs, found AbiWord and Clementine to be excellent for my taste. I even just use Clementine on Windows now for music pretty much exclusively.
Haven't seen the recent versions of Ubuntu-variants not sure how they look these days, though.
