I watched a stream of that where a higher-up in the company was playing, and it just didn't impress me.
All the action looked really detached and the person wasn't doing a very good job of explaining more than saying they were going to set troop A against enemy B.
Add the high price to it and I wasn't going to jump in.

Isn't Storm of Vengeance the piece of crap that's basically a semi-rip off of Plants vs. Zombies of all things?

yes i know. The original DOW was the only decent w40k pc game i've ever played, besides final liberation.

No chance of that since I wasn't ever going to be willing to spend hundreds of dollars on miniatures, but I get what you're saying.

Ah well, they'll run themselves into the ground, and that'll be that if they don't change.

Ugh...I remember looking at that and thinking, "You have got to be kidding me."
But it wasn't some gods-awful fever dream, a company of hacks actually concocted that turd.

I wonder if GOG stands a change at getting Final Liberations on here now that they have some SSI games here. But I doubt it, as SSI is now owned by Ubisoft. Luckily I own Final Liberation on disk, and managed to get it working perfectly on Windows 7, complete with those lovely 1980s style b-movie live action cutscenes.

My brothers used to collect the miniatures, they did not spend vast amounts, but it was a hobby they enjoyed (that is how I got into the lore). I think GW will suffer greatly when 3D printing becomes more affordable. I wonder if this is why they are branching out so much into video games, to establish themselves more there instead of models. If only they would stop charging ridiculous amounts then more people would be willing to play with the miniatures. I will never understand why the overprice themselves so much.

It was a nice mixture of silly fun and a good strategy game. My only problem with the game was that is was incomplete, that the Space Marines were way too weak (routing and dying just as easily as Imperial Guard), and the whole moral thing. I am not of fan of timed missions, and the moral think made each mission timed.

That's easy. They overcharge because they think they can get away with it and make more money.

Course, when the combo of 3-D printers and pirate designs comes along, they're going to get backlash on a heavier level than they've ever had to deal with before.

ah yes! It left no room for strategic artillery barrages. and for some reason my army lost morale every turn... that was horrible but the gameplay was fun though.

They could still make a profit selling 3D templates and rule books, but I doubt they are that smart to adjust to things. They seem to think they are the only option, which is why they charge so much. Oh well, at least once they are gone some other companies might pop up that respect table top gamers more. I have never been into that much, but many are, and i am sure they will love a new company that treats their customers right.

The morale was part of the table top system. It was not too bad, the game was sill really fun, especially multiplayer. Maybe GW should do a remake of that game. Just improve the graphics, the balance, add the other races, and you have a very fun game.

More and more things on GOG seems to be catered for the US market, so things have been starting later than the normal 11am GMT time. I think the Winter sale was like this, but I could be mistaken. I guess you will have to wait a few more hours to find out if today is your lucky day. :-)

I get the feeling GW will freak out and try to drop the hammer as hard as possible on ways for people to get their miniature designs for free. Their reputation will look that much worse, and they won't be able to stop it once it starts.

That's why they should just embrace the whole 3D printing thing. For example, sell a pack of the models for a chapter for a set amount (which will cost GW virtually nothing, as it's just digital blueprints), then sell the materials to 3D print and the paint. Stop overpricing everything, and start focusing on the customers. They apparently used to have a lovely fan orientated atmosphere, but now they don't even take part in the big table top tournaments anymore. Sure people will still steal the model designs and things, but the same could be said for games. People steal games all the time, but developers and publishers are still able to make large profits. If GW went back to making it a fun hobby for the fans and did things to involve the fans, maybe they would be okay. And 3D printing is a long way off from being really affordable and available in every home. So they could still sell physical models as well. They just need to stop being jerks to the customers and fans.

At least if the sale starts today I can get some gifting in before Moon gets back and beats me to it. :-)

In the end, it'll be up to them to decide how to handle things. If they can't adapt, they're going to go under.

Speaking of which, it's now 25 minutes past standard update time.
No new releases, no Monday sale posting, no items in the sale tab waiting for a forum post to accompany them.
So unless GOG is running very far behind today for some reason, something bigger is coming.
