Vnlr: It's double quite a lot of the time when I hear it, in a patronising/uncaring manner mostly. But I heave heard it being used sincerely in a supportive manner.

I just read that the creator of Haagse harry died while looking for dirty language for the boys :(
I suppose that's possible. I had the same thing with an English expression: "good for you". To me it sounds super sarcastic but apparently it can be totally sincere. :P

Oh noes. :P To be honest I'm not really up to date on the street language. Just what I hear in the bus or when I'm teaching. :P

EndreWhiteMane: Agent are you American or French today? I'm feeling really outnumbered here. :-)
French on Mondays and Thursdays. American on Tuesday and Wednesday. On weekends, I am a free Agent :-)

FearfulSymmetry: It's not very positive though. If I were to say that to someone I'd be like: hahaha sucks for you, sorry not sorry. :P
Waar zijn mijn manieren?

How is your evening coming Jongedame?

Vnlr: I really like the Dutch language for all of these quirks ;)

For all that matter, you could also say "flikker toch al effe lekker op" (try translating that one)

Endre, je bent een leuke bink hoor. Je advies zo over dat D&D boek was echt lekker man! Zo van jou moesten ze er meer hebben, mooi bedankt!

There, that's all of them in one sentence :P
Oh dear...the translation on that failed but then there is nothing even close to German except for "toch" and "lekker"

I think i mostly got the other one...but it's too late for me to think in three languages :P

oh maybe you get this one:

Wenn du mol in uns plattdüütsch Rebeet ween büstm denn hess de Oort to greuten al heurt. Obers, wat meent dat? Wo kümmt dat vun af? (It's just a bit from one website) :D

Oh don't worry about it, I kind of just jumped into the conversation too. :P

My evening is fine, I'm spending it gaming. Although it's bloody hot here, I don't reckon I'll be able to sleep for a while yet. How are you doing?
Oh look, Donald Trump is in the news again. <Trying to remember what Hillary looks like> :/
avatar
Vnlr: You can also call an event or happening (ie, a fail of one of your friends) "sour"

"Dat is zuur"
Oh well...we have Schadenfreude for that :D

And we can also use a lot of word sarcastically :)

Even with Agent as American you're still outnumbered :P

He's having one of the rockiest campaigns in history and he just got up and told everyone the GOP is more unified then it's ever been. The guy is a moron. Of course he's getting 95% of the publicity by being one.

If you ... In our flat German dialect ... then you have already heard (the way of greeting?) . Besides, what does that mean, where does it even hail from?

Don't worry, most Europeans just scratch their heads in bemusement too when watching the USA elect its presidents.

"Trump might be an oversized baby, but at least you know what he's busying himself with so blusteringly all the time - It's that fishy underhand-dealing Hillary I'm most afraid of"

that's what a friend said ;)

To me it looks like he's going down the drain fast but I'm not going to sell these Canadian train tickets quite yet..........

No it means: If you been in a Low German speaking region (or area), you may have this greeting. But what does it mean? Where does it come from? And the whole sentence is about the origins of "moin" :)

That basically the "correct" translation. Low German / Saxon is not a really codified language...but it's usually said that it sits between German and Dutch.

Let's hope so although Hilary only seems like the lesser evil...

Well, I never got thaught any German at school and my Rise of Legends manual presents me with enough of a challenge as is (why did they remove all other language files from the install disks anyway) :p

My mother speaks it fluently because in her young age her father only had German posts running on the TV for sports and music and shows. I studied maths and sciences with a very reduced language packet, and we don't even own a TV. so there :)
