Doing OK here, really busy day ahead though.
Good afternoon everybody!

I hope today finds you all well?

I spent all of yesterday playing a Lan game of endless space with an old friend. I'd never played it before despite owning it for some time, but it was easy enough to pick up on. Except the combat system (losing to vastly inferior enemies all the time) and me blustering through the research screen.

Now I'm working on some of my pen and paper RPG stuff. I thought of trying to grab the runequest core rulebook in a local store, but for now D&D 4.0 is keeping us steadily busy and going at it; the players tell me they love the plot so far, so that makes the DM happy. Only problem is that we have an otherwise very happy player in the group who has qualms about playing D&D 4. Apparently nearly everyone thinks it's vastly inferior to 3.5 and a total betrayel of everything D&D which I don't really get as it plays well enough. Fading suns keeps being fun too, although the party is slightly OP. Might have to houserule shields and laser auto-rifles ;)

I've tried working on music but it's one of those days that it really doesn't work out.

How is your day? *hugs and a wise sermon from the dilbert future for everyone*

Jesus harold christ, D&D 4.0 is/was horrible.

Really? I never noticed :p

Maybe we didn't play enough of 3.5 before moving on? ;)

5.0 was an improvement, but you'd never catch me with anything 4.0 even if they paid me. Though I prefer any of the TSR D&D versions over the WOTC ones.
Good morning, afternoon and evening to everyone, terrestrial and non-terrestrial GoGlodytes!

Hoping all of you are doing well, or at the least, better than expected.

It's early morning, here, in the quiet, cool morning air,
and the day has begun on a tasty note sung
by my morning cold brew coffee... :)

I've been seeing some of this hate, but it seems to me mostly rooted in the whole WoW miniatures game argument which I don't quite follow.

Anyway, any D&D rulebook I've seen thus far is horribly convoluted so I just skim the basics and everything else goes out the window. I prefer winging it fluently and narrating realisticly and intuitively without all the nitpicky rules weighing the fun and pace down. It makes combat and peacetime a hell of a lot nicer and cinematic when your players narrate their dodgings and mad actions and jabs and dialogue and doings instead of dryly summing up the modifiers which I make up as the game goes along. I don't think D&D would be a quarter of the fun if you stick to the rules. I look at the examples of play and gag :p

And to us, the whole power/class system of 4.0 is just a nice teambuilding/variety tool.
Hello to everyone who's joined in the last few minutes. Doing OK here, waiting for rain and relaxing.

Had to have played other things to notice the miniatures argument. :P The 3.5 comment makes me believe you started with 4.0. :P

I've actually been preferring the 1974 original D&D lately. VERY rules light until you start adding things from the supplements.

Good morning (or in my case afternoon)!

I'm quite fine, thank you! I hope you can start off a fine day with your cup of coffee ;)

Aye! I'm doing the cold brew coffee thing, Less acids and oils in the brewing with all the caffeine. :)

How's the music composing coming along?

Why yes, actually :D

Our first campaigns were with a very ancient edition of the Black Eye (Oog des meesters?) I believe it was a German system. Then we did a mini campaign with The Masquerade while off in Sweden, which is the first one I narrated and DM'ed.

After that we did D&D 4.0 for a few years, followed by trying a few other settings/systems such as Fading Suns (great with some tweaks) and A song of Ice and Fire which we actually used for a Lord of the Rings 1st era campaign.

When a new player joined up he advocated 3.5 and we played that for a short while, and it was mostly fine with me but the other players preferred 4.0 so about a few months ago we made the move back, which went rather smoothly even for the 3.5 player who didn't have prior experience but who was rather predisposed (since apparently it was garbage).
