If you enjoy FPS games at all, and considering the fact that you're more interested in Dead Space than in Dragon Age: Origins, I would say that if Mass Effect shows up here (or anywhere DRM-free) you really ought to give it a go. I have a couple friends who don't really enjoy RPG's in general who loved the series. As a series, it's really more shooter than rpg in my opinion, but it's got quite a bit of interesting lore and an interesting universe.
I personally really *want* to be interested in Dead Space, but I scare too easily to play first-person horror games. :)
Thank you. I will add the games to my wishlist for now. And I will be sure to do so with Mass Effect if it ever gets here.

Also, while I have you out of hiding. Can I ask what you think of Dex?

ElTerprise: Well technically they're not trusting the Europeans as the "New Europe" has the same price here than on the rental platform and they even get a better price here for DA:O.....

(Not to mention that Dead Space costs only 7,99€ on Origin)...
What is "New Europe"? Has Germany started the Fourth Reich finally now? I thought you were waiting to make your EU army before you repress the people and start again for world domination? :-)
*big silly hug*

Edit: Sorry, bad joke. Just ignore it. *big sorry hug*

That does seem a bit over the top. I guess they were pandering to the teenage boy mentality among their gamers, or doing what they thought their audience would have wanted. Mass Effect is another game I have heard a lot about, but never played. But it does seem to have a very big following.
I was kinda using metaphor. While there is a relationship system, it's no hot-coffee minigame. The most you get is a few sequences of sexy-times after investing a whole playthrough in a particular character. I'd say Geralt gets a lot more action in his adeventures.

I did think that the fantasy tropes were a bit too tightly packed.

Mass Effect is an absolute delight. With my favorite in the series being 2. It has significantly less plot, but a lot more emphasis on character building. In fact, the game made me care so much about them. That by the time we got to the final mission I was shouting at the screen "No one is dying on my watch, I forbid any of you maggots to die! Every single one of us is making it out of here alive and THAT'S FINAL!".
And they did.

I remember a certain member of the Bush-Administration mentioning Old Europe which means a New Europa must exist too ;) (Although i used the opposite term very liberally for the Colonials ^^)
About the Fourth Reich: Maybe you should ask around in Brazil or Argentina - you know Boys from Brazil and whatnot...

But i also think that the pricing is odd for both DA:O and Dead Space...here and on Steam but here on the expense of the Europeans....

Only games I would want from the releases today really is sim city 3000, never played it before and I love the sim games. I have dragon age and dead space on origin already.

ddickinson: You say that like Steam games are not pirated within hours of release anyway. :-)
My guess is them just abusing the DRM-Free only customers, betting on them paying more to get games DRM-Free.
Indeed, but try to explain a corporate drone that DRM is fucking useless.

And that's precisely what they're doing. You want a hooker that won't give you crotch-rot and clean sheets too? Jeez, fine mister nitpickity but you gotta pay more for it.

Was it the Mass Effect franchise that had to remake the ending as fans were not happy with it?

Sorry, I did edit my post to apologise for the silly joke.

I guess EA has little reason to care about any market outside the US, they are pretty much the majority of all gaming customers. Or EA is doing some testing on price. Or GOG is just no longer telling us about regionally priced games or giving us the difference. o_O

I think I have only played one Sim City game, one of the older ones. They are not bad games, just not really for me. But it is nice to see more here, as I know many people like them.

My favorite so far is still the SNES version of the original sim city.

I could, but I would have better luck just telling this wall here. :-)

But why did we only get one of the hookers when there are at least two on Steam? :-)

I did not realise it was on the SNES. I always thought it was a PC only game.

SNES had a better version of the original and 2000 was ported onto a bunch of different systems (SNES, Playstation 1, sega saturn, etc.)

No worries...and no need to apologise :)

Probably. But whatever the reason it's totally weird having such a discrepancy between stores - wouldn't be surprised when Origin tbh but 10€/£ difference is quite a bit....
Not to mention that the games are still regionally priced. You get 0,70€ back O_o

I never knew that at all. Granted I was never too up to day with gaming.

The only game showing regional pricing for me is Sim City 3,000 (£0.20 back). It sure seems strange that only that one is regionally priced, given the 50% mark up on Dead Space.

ddickinson: Was it the Mass Effect franchise that had to remake the ending as fans were not happy with it?
Yeah, that happened.
3 is great... until the first third. Then it takes a nosedive in quality and starts to feel rushed. And most people agree that that's exactly what happened. A lot of people blamed the multiplayer mode taking valuable development time away from the main campaign. And claimed that they'd much rather have prefered a purely single player ME3.
It wasn't so much a remake as a director's cut. They added a little extra content and a couple of sequences that tried to explain some rather LARGE plotholes. However everything remained more or less exactly the same. They simply added a few still images with some voice over narration to explain the differences between each of your choices.

The main problem is that Bioware had promised BIG, and then failed to deliver. They promised that you'd get mutliple endings, each based on your past choices over the whole 3 games. And in the end you simply chose a colour and saw the same cinematic with a different tint.

I've actually really been enjoying Dex, though I'll admit I really thought I was going to hate it at first. The dialogue and the voice acting are just awful to me, but otherwise I don't think the story is all that bad. I will say I think the Shadowrun games did a better job of constructing an interesting cyberpunk universe, but Dex plays much more like a metroidvania... Exploration is limited for a metroidvania type game, but to me that's not a horrible thing. I'm enjoying the hell out of Axiom Verge, which is almost more "metroid love letter" than metroidvania, but I keep getting hopelessly lost. With Dex, at least, that has little chance of happening once you're familiar with the game world, but there is still a sense of discovery... I think my main complaint outside of the voice acting would be that it seemed at times exploration would lead me to places I shouldn't really be yet... I didn't run into any instances of game-breaking as a result, but I can't say it's out of the question... coming across something that just didn't seem to make sense in the context of the story drove me to look at a walkthrough, and found that I was at a near end-game location that I shouldn't be visiting until much later.
The best thing I've found about it is ease of play... I'm playing with a gamepad, and though I do find the "hacking" sections difficult at times (they work like a twin-stick shooter, basically) I'm really enjoying the game and find it very playable even in the sections I find challenging / at times frustrating. And it seems like just about every quest has a number of endings, depending on your choices... which I can only say for sure due to having been drawn to a walkthrough while playing... Otherwise, I'd likely have never known this was the case. I'm probably about 2/3 of the way through the game or so, but I've had a really good time with it. :)
