Vnlr: Dead Space is fun enough. I wouldn't call it a horror game (or even "scary") but it has a bit of an athmosphere, some interesting stuff going on and some of the environments and ideas are pretty neat.

Despite the game being rather linear, they do manage to keep objectives varried and interesting. there is good enemy and (especially) weapon variety and some other stuff to spend money on such as upgrades etc.

For the most part you get stranded on a slightly derelict mining ship that has unearthed something spooky, and most of the team with you gets instantly eviscerated. you try to puzzle together a makeshift escape and bring some vital systems back online in the face of big threats while trying to survice and while the big picture comes into view (mostly through radioed dialogue with some other people who get spread out over the ship in the initial onslaught.

that's as good a description as I can give. the game might not be revolutionary, but I kept me entertained and busy, if not quite on the edge of my seat. That's hard enough to achieve for such a game as is ;)
That was a lovely description, thank you for taking the time to type it. I am still not quite sure why the price is 50% more on GOG for me and others, I guess EA logic.

Naughty Mr Agent. Don't you be getting involved with drugs. *shakes head in disappointment*
That is what we get from some the US legalising it. Silly Americans. :-)

Good evening, all the new arrivals!

So, any thoughts on Dragon Age or Dead Space? The latter looks more appealing to me out of the two, as I am not the biggest RPG fan, but I have also heard some good things about Dragon Age.
I can recommend the first dead space. It was creepy, atmospheric and genuinely scary (In a B movie sort of way, á la Nightmare in Elm street. Silent Hill it ain't, so don't expect that). Yes, it did resort to jumpscares, but it did a very good job of making you go "Oh shit, oh shit I'm gonna die!" While never making you completely despair and always giving you a fighting chance. So that when you eventually overcame the zombie-horror from outer space; you'd scream (well at least I did) "Fuck yeah! Take that you goddamned zombie bastards!"

I played Dragon Age and... actually lost interest halfway through. I honestly have no idea why. It supposedly has everything I should love from a videogame, but it couldn't hold my attention.

Two streets down, where the morrocan.

Or pretty much everywhere actually.

Apparently, pot is cheaper here than in the Netherlands.

Thank you for the review. I never really thought of Dead Space of a Silent Hill type game, nor really one that is scary. Resident Evil was supposed to be scary and I never really thought that. Sure there were scary bits and tense bits, but overall not really a horror game. I wonder if we will be getting the second game that is on Steam?

I will have to have a closer look at Dragon Age. With RPGs not being my biggest love these days, I am not sure I need another one with all the unplayed RPGs I already have.

That's an excellent summary of the game's plot.
It's also very much B movie horror. And I loved it for that.
But as far as the plot was concerned... Well it was ok, and it served its purpose, which was providing a narrative link to thread together the different zombie dismemberment scenarios. But beyond that... It's basic McGuffin is a very old trope.

My brief dalliance with Dragon Age some years ago and subsequent falling out is one of those bizarres things that I don't fully understand.
Imagine an absolutely gorgeous woman who caters to every single one of your fetishes coming onto you, at first you are ecstatic . Then eventually you lose interest, inexplicably so. It's not because of her personality (which is great and rich), or her brains (she's very smart). It's just that after getting to know her better, things just don't click.

And thinking about it as I write this. I believe it might have been because sh... I mean IT, might have been trying too hard to be everything I wanted.

Strangely enough, I love Mass Effect which is to DA.O what WH40K is to Warhammer.
And the same happened with Oblivion and Fallout 3

That does seem a bit over the top. I guess they were pandering to the teenage boy mentality among their gamers, or doing what they thought their audience would have wanted. Mass Effect is another game I have heard a lot about, but never played. But it does seem to have a very big following.

Actually I think it makes perfect sense for them. Either they're trying to see if people are really willing to pay more for a DRM-free game. In which case they can skim a few dollars more. Or they're saying that since they're suffering a greater risk of piracy. they should be allowed to charge more in which case they can skim a few dollars more.

You say that like Steam games are not pirated within hours of release anyway. :-)
My guess is them just abusing the DRM-Free only customers, betting on them paying more to get games DRM-Free.

<--breaks out of lurking mode for a moment

If you enjoy FPS games at all, and considering the fact that you're more interested in Dead Space than in Dragon Age: Origins, I would say that if Mass Effect shows up here (or anywhere DRM-free) you really ought to give it a go. I have a couple friends who don't really enjoy RPG's in general who loved the series. As a series, it's really more shooter than rpg in my opinion, but it's got quite a bit of interesting lore and an interesting universe.
I personally really *want* to be interested in Dead Space, but I scare too easily to play first-person horror games. :)

Well technically they're not trusting the Europeans as the "New Europe" has the same price here than on the rental platform and they even get a better price here for DA:O.....

(Not to mention that Dead Space costs only 7,99€ on Origin)...
