Morning all, hope everyone is OK today. Very sorry to hear of your loss Akh, give your lady a big hug for me.
Been a bit of a rough week around here but hopefully things will settle down a little soon.
Some excellent staff picks this week but I'm sure most of us own the ones we're interested in.
*hugs, waves, decaf coffee (blech!)*

Excellent staff picks? I must've been looking at the wrong promo. :P

akhliber: Just popping in to send some love to Fred the Thread. I hope you all have a lovely day!

The lady is home from work today. We lost a family friend yesterday that she was very close to for as long as she remembers, and it's been really hard on her. We spent most of yesterday watching really bad tv and playing board games. We're about to go enjoy some time out back with Sarge and some coffee.

I will likely be back around to chat a bit later in the day. For now, I wish you all a lovely Monday!
*big hugs all around*
*Hugs Akhliber* Damn, I'm sorry for you and your lady. :(

Freespace, I war, IL-2 and several others are awesome games, if they're your thing.

They are not. :P
Good to know there are some actual good games in there though.
I have most of the ones I like already, red baron, IL-2, etc.

ddickinson: I am very sorry to hear about the loss of your family friend. It is nice that you have each other for support, and that you have been trying to pass the time with some fun games and bad tv.

*big comforting hug*

omega64: My condolences.
Good luck.

Thanks so much, all of you. :) She's handling things much better today, which is good to see. Today we're working on shifting away from grieving and toward celebrating time had. She's been laughing over childhood memories as we go through pictures and is just doing much better overall. I feel I take to loss too easily, and it makes me fear I'm cold at times... I think it's just that I've always seen life as a temporary thing and that we're small and nearly insignificant in the grand scheme of life and time, and have never really learned to get attached, even to those I care about. Loss is a natural part of life, it's just hard to see those we love suffer. It's really good to see her able to find those good moments again so soon.

**Apologies for the blanket reply instead of replying individually, and for rambling about un-fun lifestuffs so much. I'm about to put on some records and do a bit of cleaning, then likely play a bit more Dex while the lady takes a lunchtime nap. :)

Much love to you all.
*big hugs

So a couple of my classmates want to try this odd Pen & Paper RPG business. And as the most experienced and venerable nerd around I shall be officiating as their gamemaster.
What games should I use to pop their roleplaying cherries?
I'm thinking Cthulhu.

Why is a pixelated version of firelink shrine on the front page?

Cthulhu is always good. It has quite the mass-appeal. Unspeakable cults (or whatever is the English title of that) is probably not suitable for newbies? Maybe you could ask them which genre they prefer?

Asking them? Asking them?! Who do you take me for? Someone sane?
No a real game master prepares meticulously for every eventuality in otder to crush the spirits of his players in the most efficient and cruel way possible, until they are reduced to weeping ragged piles of sorrow and tears in an almost catatonic state, emitting anguished cries of desperation the likes of which have only been heard from an editor who's been given a copy of the Eye of Argon to proofread.

Then and only then will you know that you have been a good gamemaster!

I'd like to run some original 1974 D&D myself.

Hurmmm, the potential for cruelty towards your players is... enormous.
But so is the potential for munchkinry.

You must QUASH it, before it takes root.

Eh the munchkin is alot less in Od&d, i've heard it called underpowered for the most part. Very few bonuses, etc.
Good morning/afternoon/evening, everyone. =)

I hope you're all doing at least okay so far.
