It's got pros and cons. I like the luck mechanic most of the time, but things like the jumping and reloading controls annoy the crap out of me.

Well...got through the first five stages on old school, but on level six I was getting so annoyed at having to do the entire level again from the start each time, I finally switched it to new school.

Also, I think I know why your level one boss keeled over. I had that happen on the level six boss. They died out of the blue with no involvement from me at all.

I think the boss keeling over might be tied to how much luck you have left by the end? You must be much better than I am at side scrollers, then. :P

I don't think so. I had virtually no luck when I started from the last checkpoint of level six.
I'd fought and been killed by the boss a few times by then. Thought it'd be the same thing, only someone shot the boss out of the blue, then I got an achievement for that happening.
I couldn't take him back to town alive, he was dead and had to be carried, then buried.

Nothing says fun like being able to pinpoint exactly when a game goes from something you'd recommend, to something you can't.
Hit that point with Luckslinger a little while ago. Fighting the last boss, who requires something in the range of 100 hits to die, while you yourself can withstand 3 hits, and the 4th one kills you.

Also, it's apparent that whoever decided that putting an unskippable quasi-cutscene in right before said fight has either never played a video game, or thought that their work was so fantastic that the player should sit through it every single fucking time they die and have to start again. (Spoiler: It's not.)

Additional - There. Fuck you, game. I won.
Now attempting to shoot all the worthless townsfolk who hid while I got my ass shot off dozens of times.
