EndreWhiteMane: Does seem a bit funky to be building a nice house with pretty curtains and growing radishes when your not out killing stuff.
But it does sound somewhat cosy...not sure if that's a good thing in an RPG though :)

ddickinson: That is good, we need your tower laboratory to have the best views. :-)
Thank you. I am definitely sick of being stuck inside, and with it being summer it makes it worse.

Ah, sorry, I never looked a those places, or at the game that much. There was little point given that I don't even own the original, let alone have never played it, or the sequel.
Exactly :)

That's understandable - which is why this is really good news :)

No problem - and i've never played any of the System Shock games either...

For some reason when I heard someone talking about the new game being a farm RPG I pictured the player playing the animals who were rising up, like in George Orwell's Animal Farm. I figured it could be fun to play as Comrade Napoleon. Or to give him his full title "Our Leader, Comrade Napoleon, Father of All Animals, Terror of Mankind, Protector of the Sheep-fold, Ducklings' Friend". :-)

I'd buy that! :-)

EndreWhiteMane: My lazy is making a pot before I go to bed so I have fairly decent brew I can just nuke in the morning while I feed the critters. :-)
That's not laziness. That's planning.

ddickinson: Thank you. I am actually thinking that would explain my poor sleeping patterns. As I am getting better my energy levels are getting back to how they were, so I have all this energy and nothing really to do with it, so I think that could be causing some of my sleep troubles. So hopefully once I am able to do more things I am hoping that will stop or at least help my sleeping problems, which in turn should help me get better sooner thanks to the extra rest.

I have heard a few people are weary of Balrum due to it being a Java game, but I only read a little, so I might be mistaken. None of the games are really for me, but I know many are excited about System Shock, even if I do think the publishers are a little underhanded asking for crowdfunding they hey have enough money to fund it themselves.
That does make sense. Eventually it'll all be stabilized and you'll be back to normal.

I don't mind Night Dive going that route. I like their work, so the extra level of financial security involved is fine. People decide how much is going to be put into the revamp by paying up front, rather than the company risking millions on their own.

It does generate the image of the main character being a sociopath with a green thumb.

You have a typo.

So would I. A nice game based on Animal Farm would be fun. You would get to rise up to take down those who walk on two legs (“Four legs good, two legs bad.”), then after that you become them ("Four legs good, two legs better!"), all the time going against your values, because in reality those values were never there, just illusions used for some to gain power over others (“All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.”). The book was a nice analogy for Communism, but I think much of it could be applied to many other types of rule as well, not just Communism or Socialism.

I will stop rambling on now. Back to talking of games. :-)

True, I just feel that sometimes publishers are using this route out of greed. Why risk their own money if they can risk yours. And as long as they are only risking your money they don't need to care too much about the final outcome, just look at the mess that was Mighty Number 9. At least when they use their own money they have a vested interest to make the game good sot hat it will sell.

No that's not a typo if you can actually see it.
It's a misdirection.

I have no doubt that a number of them do.

I knew that one wasn't going to be as soon as I saw the first gameplay footage for it.
People wanted an improved modern version of Mega Man. That's it. The developer went with their own interpretation and it's not working out so well.

Just a little good morning before I get started with my day. I hope you're all doing well, or better. :)

EndreWhiteMane: Agreed on Balrum. Sounds like there's so much mixed in there as to dilute the whole experience.
avatar
CarrionCrow: I saw the phrase "farming sim" included when it was described. That's enough for me to avoid it.
I backed Balrum and have played through about half the game. I really enjoy it personally, but honestly I wouldn't be enjoying it much without a save game exploit that allowed me to have more skill points. Thing is, there are so many skills, but you get so few points to use through the course of the game that, if you dual-class, you pretty much can't learn farming, alchemy, carpentry, cooking, mining, woodworking, etc... There's just so many things included, but you're so limited in what you get to try in a single play through, and I don't think the game is really conducive to multiple play throughs.
Another problem with it is that, unless you read a bit on forums/interwebs in advance, you could waste a bunch of skill points. For instance, there's a Farming level 1 book to be found early in the game (I'm using an example, this may be the wrong skill book, just trying to show what I mean) that anyone can use, so if you spent some of your points learning farming, you've basically wasted those points. Frustrating.
However, as an rpg, it's actually quite fun. Exploration is really fun, the day/night cycle is interesting and the world is oddly immersive for something with such simple graphics.
The farming / building stuff *could* be ignored almost entirely (you do have to repair a home as part of a quest, but don't require special skills to do it, and you get a teleportation stone to a 'safe place' which is another map with no enemies on which you can build your own house with workstations, farms, whatever.
If you are an rpg fanatic, you may really enjoy it. Otherwise, you'll likely find it tedious and frustrating. :)

That is very true.

Do you think you will back the new System Shock game, or will you just wait until the final product comes here, or are you not too bothered about it?

I'll settle for a little one today. It's feeling like an "everything in small doses" kind of day. Plus, what if the afternoon is big, I'll be overwhelmed by then. ;)

So you are having a small dose kind of day. I hope that will pass soon so you can have a big mood day. :-)

A big mood day doesn't sound half bad. I'll keep to my small doses until the time seems right for a switch.
In the mean time, some coffee. The one thing I'll currently make an exception on the "small doses" rule for. ;)
