EndreWhiteMane: I'm a jerk of all trades too! :-)
Just curious, what rewiring does a fuse box require?
*big electrifying hug*
You made me think I had actually put that instead of Jill. :-) Just curious, what rewiring does a fuse box require?

I am not sure how to answer that without just saying re-wiring it (I am not that good at explaining electrical things :-)). We replaced the old box, and the metre, and many of the wires and fuses, then put in a new box and added some new wire.
I am not sure how best to describe it as I don't know how US fuse boxes are. This is not my actual fuse box, but one similar. Are they like ones in the US?

I don't think I will be improving it. It is not really a career I want, just things that are nice to know. Like decorating, plastering, plumbing, hitting things with big hammers until they work, things that are good to know for around the house generally.:-)

I didn't get that you had replaced the whole thing, that's quite a job. Good for you for being able to do that stuff.
Edit: Here's a typical panel here.

EndreWhiteMane: Perfect description and yes, ours are similar.

Sorry, I really could not think at the moment of a better way to say it without rambling on in detail. We had been having some faults with the box for a little while, nothing major, but my friend had a newer box spare and suggested we could waste a few hours fitting it. The friend who checked it was actually the guy who showed me how to do most of the fuse box work a while ago at his house. He needed to do a good check of it, but I did an okay job. I didn't get that you had replaced the whole thing, that's quite a job. Good for you for being able to do that stuff.
So, want me to come and re-wire your place? I promise I won't disable the electric fence keeping the nurses there. :-)
And I like our metres better (no idea if any is better, or if they just look different). :-p
And since I forgot to ask (sorry about that), but how are you today?
*big Monday hug*

I've been a certified electrician for years though I've not renewed my building code certificate in some time.
Homeowners and electricity are two things that don't always mix well, been quite a lot of fires, injury and even a few deaths. I even have my work checked to be sure I'm up to date building code wise. Good job you did. ;)

That is good to hear. I am doing okay, paying a little for overdoing things over the weekend, but nothing I regret. It was worth it. :-) I've been a certified electrician for years though I've not renewed my building code certificate in some time.

I am certified as well, and not just as an electrician (I wonder if that joke works outside of England?). :-)
I can understand the need to be safe. I would not have attempted it if I did not know what I was doing or had someone to check for me. If I had any doubt I would have had someone else do it in no time. I might be impulsive but I tend not to be stupid with it. :-)

Fairfox: Bathroom flooooood. I paideded $137 for a man to fix it. Nao I realize I could have bought a tool for liek $30-$60 and done it myself, 'coz he spented liek five mins fixing it.
Imma such an idiot.
Nobody can know how to do everything and plumbing is a very special kind of pain in the butt. Imma such an idiot.
At least it's fixed now.
Edit: Why is "man" in italics? A woman plumber charges the same as guys do. :-)

I don't think it is a case of you being an idiot, you can not be expected to know everything. It is a shame you did not find out before hand and after you paid someone to do it, but at least now you know, and I hope the flooding did not cause too much damage for you.
