akhliber: A sleepy "good morning to you, Fred." I hope you're all having a good day! Typing has become much easier, but I haven't chanced trying to game with my knobby fangers just yet. Still enjoying going through old and new music to decide just what I want to fill my music player with... I've almost filled it now, and have put most things I felt most strongly about, so it's a bit of a coast from here on out. :)

A bit of sleepy-sad morning music: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWoZGwOIfDE

I can't quite exceed that pace until I've had a few gallons of coffee run through me. ;)
Good afternoon, sleepy friend :)
Have a nice day in music ! **big hugs**

EndreWhiteMane: Hi Little Owl, sorry your in the middle of all the labor crap that's going on, hopefully it'll be over soon.
Yep, teaching people about stuff is fun. :-)
*big hug*
Hey ... yeah, thanks... I hope they'll do something soon... it's getting a bit old !
I like teaching too ! sometimes... :-)
I hope your kids will grow fantastic vegetables, and be proud of their work !

Good morning, Akh. I hope the hand gets better extra-quickly. There is no time for injuries, with such massive backlogs to finish ;-p (Seriously though, take care of yourself please :-))

EndreWhiteMane: So far I've met most of the kids and they seem reasonably interested so that's a good thing.
The actual classes will start after school lets out for the summer, 2nd week in June.
As long as my health and head play nice on class days I think it'll all go pretty well. Classes are only 90 minutes each so really the hardest thing will be squeezing in all the info in that short a time.
Ah, so it's prep time, with all the anticipatory anxiety that goes with it.

Not going to say everything will be silky smooth at all times, since that'd be insultingly silly blowing smoke up your ass nonsense, but I hope it all goes as well as possible. What you're doing is commendable.

Hmm. Maybe some info sheets? My first thought is really simple stuff, key points about whatever you figure you'll be talking about in basic forms. Something that might work as memory enhancers, but not anything intimidating like large stacks of information that they think they're expected to absorb right off the bat.

Good morning. =)

Glad to hear you've got a strong resilience to balance out potential overload-related mishaps.

It will be loosely based on a course I took: http://jmgkids.us/Moodle-Campus/
The entire thing is based on the word PLANTS, each letter standing for one aspect of the growing process.
Since I already had a course outline to adapt for my use everything is a whole lot easier. I think it will work well.
Thanks--and a lovely day--to all of you! (Apologies, on tablet, avoiding direct replies on this mess of a thing until I'm back at my pc). Seriously, no time for injuries with this massive backlog. I'm already going to need about thrice as many years as any human could possibly expect to get. ;)

I'm definitely grateful the hand's getting better already and not worse. Still just one fingernail spreading color, otherwise even the swelling is going back down. Just another day in the life of the most graceful of ballerinas. ;)

It's weird, I just noticed that I always do this, get my music player all updated and ready with my at-the-time favorites, before going in to get a procedure done, even though I stopped actually bothering to use headphones during procedures I actually get to sleep for probably a couple years back. It came in quite handy when they would try procedures with me in a "twilight" but they stopped doing that altogether as I'd wake from them too soon too often, or something like dental work with loud noises annoying me during, but what has me convinced I'll be enjoying *any* music when I'm just going to go in, get some Propofol, then wake up and come home manic and thinking I'm invincible? I guess this is just still part of my preparation-for ritual, whether or not the end product will actually be useful. Ultimately, I'll appreciate having this thing updated, and it's giving me plenty to do and I'm quite enjoying it, so why bother worrying about the purpose it may or may serve. :)

Looks like you've already got it covered. I'm not surprised. =)
That'll make it easier for you, and that'll mean more time and energy for them.

No need to apologize. I can't stand using tablets to quasi-type, smashed hand or not.

If it makes you feel more comfortable, then the process is totally worth it, above and beyond the day-to-day utility of having all your music ready to go.

Also, thank you for mentioning your particular kind of music player. Now thinking of getting one for my roommate in the hopes that it will finally wean them off of physical CD's.

@Crow: It's a somewhat forgiving system, at least, it seems. I seem to be spoon-fed a bit of resilience as a result of each overload-related mishap, and it also works as training for finding ways to best keep my composure even during those moments (like, say, when you're on the way home and stopping for cokes and the lights and sounds are too much and *that's* when you close your hand in the door... several mishaps ago, I'd have been unable to acknowledge that I had a clear sign that I wasn't in a place to be trying to accomplish what I was trying to accomplish, and I would have gone right from the door incident to bounding into the store while freaking out internally and smiling my way up to the counter with the cokes I'd intended to pick up.
This time around, I had the presence of mind at least to just gather my composure sitting on the curb a moment, put my "smile and wave" face back on, nod to the lady in a "f*ck this we'll gets cokes in the morning" kind of way and got on out of there.

As much as the experiences suck, it seems like they're also the greatest teacher for how to deal with more of them in the future. It's a crappy thing to deal with, but all the same it's nice that it's one of those crappy things that can have with it a feeling of progress on the side. :)

edit: also, good luck convincing your roommate to move to lossless audio files. All my cd's are stuffed in boxes in the garage. And that already is just taking up too much room in the house. Haha. I'll keep them around I'm sure, but keeping them all in the house? We'd run out of room for things like food and toiletries. ;)
And the FiiO players are excellent. While looking at the site I saw that they also have one called an X1 now, which is much more inexpensive than the X5. I think it only has one microSD bay, maybe missing a few features more aimed at "audiophiles" but selling point is quite attractive ($100 US as opposed to about $350 US for the X5... not sure about the X7)

Yeah, that is a bright spot to it all. If it doesn't break you utterly, you learn to cope that much better for the next thing that comes along.

I don't think lossless will be something I'm even going to try explaining to them, let alone trying to get them to adapt to the format.
I'm assisted in that by way of all their audiobook purchases being bought in the standard .mp3 format. I couldn't get all that in lossless if I wanted to. (And I most certainly don't. -laughs-)

I totally get the CD creep. Like some kind of mutant fungus growing larger and larger. Until they sprang for some very large CD cases, the stacks were slowly growing up their wall. Horrible system, almost impossible to find anything easily.

Looking at the X1 now. That would be much better for me price-wise, and it would be like them going from a sub-compact car to a Mercedes comparing their old music player to that one. Grab them a 128 gig card, and they'd be happy as a clam, I'm sure.

Additional - They want 600 dollars for the X7. That's flatout impossible. -laughs-

$600 for the X7? Yeesh. I guess being Android powered is an attractive feature for many. I just find it odd.
I'd just guessed that maybe his reluctance to go digital was a dislike for mp3's, but if that's not the case, then it's an even bigger win, as he'll be able to store ten times as much or more if it's in mp3 format.

(back at pc, going to have a look at the X7 in depth. Baffled by that price point given what I thought it offered. They spent so much time discussing with communities on audiophile forums what price points seemed fair as entry points for the X5 and I believe that's how they even decided to develop the X1... so a $600 player? It must have something fancy hiding in there. Too fancy for me, surely, but not for someone out there, I guess. :)

At least we will never run out of games :-) In the year 2080, when I'm finally bored after having played all 41 Tropico games, NOLF 3, and Call of Duty 621: RoboUnicorns 6 - Remastered Edition B... I will still have The Longest Journey in my backlog :-p

Not too bad here. Pup is extra sleepy this morning, which helps with my own extra sleepy. Finally about to motivate to make more coffee. Been needing to do that for a while now. :) Nice lazy day overall though, certainly can't complain. :)
