EndreWhiteMane: Anyone special in mind?
Probably. But at the moment, it's an idle thought to amuse myself with until I can sleep.
It's more fun to consider than my 700th attempt at Geometry Dash. -laughs-

But anyway. How's your day going so far?

Pretty good so far, nice cloudy day here. Going and watering the gardens is about my only plan for the day.
You OK other than lack of sleep?

That's cool. You've undoubtedly been putting a lot of work into them. How's it all doing?

Yeah, can't complain here. Thinking of grabbing a soda, but there are houseguests at the moment so me smashing the bag of ice on the floor to break it up isn't really doable right now.
Other than that, I've got some nice loud music going, which helps keep the eyelids a little bit perkier. -laughs-

Gardens are doing well, got a late start due to having to change the program for the students I have coming.
Lots of stuff to plant yet but I have help with that. Now we just need some rain, pretty hot and dry here for this time of year.

That's good to hear, especially with the schedule change-up.

Apologies if I've asked this before. What kinds of items are you growing?

Mostly stuff that has a high yield per square foot, Tomatoes, Cucumbers, Squash, Peppers, etc.
We have lots of stuff like herbs and greens too, those are mostly for examples for the students.
Pretty small operation, 33 4x8 foot plots.

Edit: Should say 33 4x8 foot raised beds, makes more sense. :-)

Wow, that's a serious spread, all kinds of good, interesting things there.
My grandmother used to grow tomatoes once upon a time. Not sure on square footage, but there were quite a few plants. What grew there was so much better than anything you could get in a store.

A question for you - is there anything you think might be good for planter box growing in a desert environment?
(I know I could ask Google or whatever, but I trust you more than them. ;P)

Any heat loving veggie should work well if you can keep it well watered. Tomatoes, peppers, cukes, squash.
Just be sure to use a 'planter' or 'container' mix as your soil. It's lighter and holds moisture better.
Cover the soil surface with a mulch to help hold water in, 3 layers of newspaper with wood chips or rocks/gravel to hold it down works great.
Picking 'bush' varieties of the veggies will keep them a good size for containers.

Okay, thank you. =) Saved that to a notepad so it won't get buried.

You mentioned primarily growing herbs and greens for the kids to check out. How's the whole thing going with them?
My first thought when considering what you're doing is that you are a hell of a lot braver and more patient than I am...
Hooo... a free gardening lesson :->
Hello, Endre ! nice to see you having a good day !

So far I've met most of the kids and they seem reasonably interested so that's a good thing.
The actual classes will start after school lets out for the summer, 2nd week in June.
As long as my health and head play nice on class days I think it'll all go pretty well. Classes are only 90 minutes each so really the hardest thing will be squeezing in all the info in that short a time.
A sleepy "good morning to you, Fred." I hope you're all having a good day! Typing has become much easier, but I haven't chanced trying to game with my knobby fangers just yet. Still enjoying going through old and new music to decide just what I want to fill my music player with... I've almost filled it now, and have put most things I felt most strongly about, so it's a bit of a coast from here on out. :)

A bit of sleepy-sad morning music: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWoZGwOIfDE

I can't quite exceed that pace until I've had a few gallons of coffee run through me. ;)

At least it's not getting worse.

Glad the fangers are gettin' better. Nice tune too. :-)
