Apologies if this is not the place to post this question, but I have a question about the Community Wishlist.

So I've noticed that the top three unfulfilled wishes in the most voted games ever are Diablo, MechWarrior and Black & White.

I guess what I'm asking is that those games (along with many others further down the list) have been on there for a long time and while I'm sure that GOG is attempting to do what they need to obtain these games (With the possible exception of Diablo) one of the things I feel is missing is a lack of information to the potential buyers of these games.

I wonder if it would be possible for a "Wishlist Update" from GOG covering the progress of obtaining some of these more desirable titles. Maybe just some news on the Top 20.
If a game is unobtainable then it's probably worth letting people know as well so that it can be removed from the Wishlist or at least marked as "Closed".

Many many people are waiting on many many games, and I love GOG for providing access to some of these classic titles, but the one thing that I feel is lacking is some form of news.

Anyone else feel the same about this? r can one of the mods wade in and answer this query?

Those games are highly unlikely to ever appear here. That does not mean however that people shouldn't vote that they want them, it is a wishlist at the end of the day. There is even console only titles and games never finished on that list!

True enough. People should definitely be able to say what they want.

But it would clear things up if an answer could be given from the GOG staff for example:
Diablo - top of the wish list.
Would it not be better for a member of staff to actually state that Blizzard own the rights to these games and would not/are not willing to place them on GOG.
This is more of an obvious one as most people are aware of that, but for some of the more obscure/older titles it might be nice to get an update on whether GOG intends or is already pursuing obtaining these titles.

I feel it's more an issue of keeping Community members informed than anything else and a Monthly/Bi-Monthly update on some titles, would be great.

It's tricky.
Diablo seems virtually impossible (to put it lightly) and I actually got shit for asking about it, one of my first ever posts, HOWEVER this was the same case with Lucas Arts.

Well, years later we now have Lucas Arts. "And there was much rejoicing."

The way I see it is, why give any kind of a definitive answer when the past has shown that stranger things have happened. Mind you, getting Diablo would completely redefine "stranger things" but I for one am not giving up! :D

Even knowing that blizzard will never release Diablo, doesn't mean it will never happen. It's highly unlikely, but not impossible. So I doubt gog would want to burn those bridges.

That's actually a really good point. I hadn't thought about the Lucas Arts perspective at all.

I suppose a definitive answer is a really hard thing to provide, unless it's guaranteed but then that would appear in the Upcoming section on the front page of the site.

But, saying that news would be an interesting thing. Black & White is an interesting example here.. Owned by Lionhead which got closed down. It's on the Wishlist but do GOG/are GOG pursuing it?

There's isn't a definitive "We're getting it" as that would be very hard/impossible to guarantee, but if the community knows that it's being looked at I think it makes a difference.

Although on the flip side I supposed you could say that any kind of "positive" reaction from staff members may result in people then assuming that it's coming...

I agree with the previous answers. At the end of the day it comes down to business & legal stuff and as far as we are concerned GOG is not obliged to publicly provide progress on any negotiations (more so if AAA publishers are on the other side).
Completely unrelated, but am I the only one who thinks a wishlist entry for Cyberpunk 2077 is funny? I mean, is anyone afraid that it might not get released on GOG? :)

Hmmm... I suppose everyone has a point here.

I thought it would be interesting to get some different points of view and see what people thought.

It's definitely not as simple as I imagined.

Maybe I should add "updates to Wishlist" to my own personal Wishlist.

I finally got my discs working a few months back and TBH, it really hasn't aged well. Depressed the hell out of me.

I actually find that with a lot of old games.... many of them don't age well, but it's the nostalgia that keeps us coming back.
My brain remembers lots of games as being totally mind blowingly awesome.. and then I play them and feel rather disappointed.

Populous 3 is springing to my mind at this point. :(

Well, yeah. Turns out designing a game for a lack of a UI as a central mechanic tends to be a bit of a botch.

Black and White 2, is better, but not exactly a shining example of a game.

Yes, but what has (aged well that is).

I still enjoy the first two AOE games. Warcraft 2 and 3. C&C (Sun, Dawn).
