Hot spot indicator? What sorcery is this?!

Simon the Sorcerer & Simon the Sorcerer 2: 25th Anniversary Edition are coming soon, DRM-free to GOG.com.
He can be arrogant. He can be obnoxious. He can drive your favorite fairytale characters nuts. If that wasn't enough, he's now also enhanced for his 25th Anniversary! Sporting a modernized control scheme, upscaled visuals, new animations and the option to mix and match all the cool new features with those of the original versions, Simon is back and ready to point & click his way into infamy once more.

The Anniversary editions will be released on April 3rd. The original versions will be removed from sale and added to these as a bonus goodie.
Each Anniversary Edition will cost 8.99 USD.
Owners of the original games will get a 50% discount on them.
Getting both Anniversary editions will grant you a 10% bundle discount.
nice ! was one of my favorites back in the day!
Nice! An absolute must-have from the classics.
I hope someone picks up "Between Worlds" again as well.

Though @GOG please make sure to keep the different languages of the original versions as well please!
Many of them had different data structure from the EN/DE versions, especially regarding subtitles.

Oh, lovely, another old game removed from sale when a remake hits. (Not that I had any interest in it, just pointing out this rotten trend and yet another following it.)
It's unclear to me from reading this announcement whether or not those of us who have already purchased these two games will be getting a free upgrade, or would we have to purchase the Anniversary Editions?

So, we are supposed to buy it again? For something that looks pretty much exactly like when you activate those shitty looking upscalers in ScummVM? Audio is obviously the same as before, so I guess activating the upscaling engine is considered a remake these days....

//EDIT: actually I would not be surprised to see this is just ScummVM with a slightly hacked config....

I'm really curious about the release price of the new version. Ive jumped here expecting something like Monkey Island or Day of the Tentacle remakes, but... well... hard to spot the differences, to be honest...

Yes you are supposed to buy it again, they don't want comparisons to the original to show how little they have done, just look at anything beamdog has done, they are the archetype for re-releasing old games, with nothing done to them, for at least twice the price. Heck NWN is next up on the cash cow list. It's just now your seeing others do it as well.

Meh, this looks more like blurred DOSBOX filters than improved visuals, and not really consistent with the menu graphics. Who can blame them for trying though, if others can get away with that, too ...
Oh yeah, I hope they enabled talkie and subtitles for STS1 (at the same time) at least. They were disabled because the subtitles were actually in the talkie version, but were considered incomplete. There were also some audio streams that were a bit too long for memory.
I had that fixed for myself in a custom-built version of ScummVM, and it was a relatively easy thing to do.
If it's a repackage of ScummVM with upscalers, and a slightly altered main-menu without the option for a talkie/subtitles combo, I'd be pretty disappointed.

EDIT:
Multiple languages:
English voice acting, with the option for adding subtitles in English, Spanish, French, Italian, Russian and Hebrew
German voice acting or subtitles-only

That pretty much explains that. A shame they didn't want to fix opcodes in the German version as well.

devs/publisher love to show their 'new' remakes :D so old games will be new(er) games and the old games won't be there anymore (maybe as a freebie because people bought the game)

Bigger PC, bigger screens so everything has to follow, 'goodbye' to old games.
Dev got new toys to play with and wants to show it to the world, nothing we can do about it.

More new releases /remakes of old games ( replacing the originals and until now added as a bonus, but no longer for sale as they are now part of.

I don;t mind.... like i said times changes so does gaming..... it's all follow the crowd (to do something because most other people are doing it)..... :D

Still hoping Touche The Adventures of the Fifth Musketeer ( Initial release date: 1995) arrives .

Bermuda Syndrome ( developed by Century Interactive and published by BMG Interactive in 1995. The game is similar in gameplay and appearance to the classic Flashback from 1992).

Anyway there are dozens of games, good games still out there, but new releases seem to be hot right now so the number of good old games releases are quite low compared to the dozens of new games released.

Even though I don't even own them on GOG anyway (I still use my retail versions), I'd probably get angry at having to pay full-price again for a modern-day remake but it sounds like this version offers next-to-nothing of benefit over the original, which works just fine from disc and in ScummVM. The newly recorded music and sampled MT-32 music sound interesting but are not essential. The graphical filters look horrendous and the only relief in that regard is that they can be turned off.

Intriguing that there's no price given for the Anniversary Editions.

Optional retro settings: play with original graphics, original music and even the original controls
The option to choose between original and revamped was really great in the Monkey Island Special Editions. But original MI was never sold on GOG, so it's not so good for people who have already bought Simon the Sorcerer.
English voice acting, with the option for adding subtitles in English, Spanish, French, Italian, Russian and Hebrew
So this is gonna solve the current issue that you can play with either voice acting or subtitles, but not both? This alone would make the anniversary edition worthy for me.

Fairfox: smeary-blurry-filter
Looks like it. To quote the game's page:
A senseless new HD graphic mode that up-scales the game disgustingly to induce vomiting
Ooops, must have copypasted something wrong.

Well, at least you don't HAVE to use that mode. :|
