ChesHatter: What's wrong with the community here? I likely haven't experienced the same things you have (yet, perhaps), but so far it doesn't seem too bad, at least compared to other forums (if you ever want to feel depressed about humanity, try the GameFAQs forums... people tear each other down just for existing).
Have the past several hours answered your question? :/

No denying that it's likely still far less bad than elsewhere, but there's also the comparison with how it used to be when GOG was largely a niche place that drew a pretty specific crowd that on top of a clear interest in DRM-free (and flat-priced *ahem*) mainly older games also tended to quite a significant extent share a certain sense of ethics and drive for fairness and, well, niceness.
If someone coming from elsewhere can still find it somewhat refreshing, someone used to that no longer finds it that sort of oasis. And with it being an ongoing process for years, steadily moving in a clear direction, and with all the changes in similar directions in terms of GOG policies, this is the result.
Sadder still is that it's a self-fulfilling prophecy, people fitting that description in the first paragraph leaving because far fewer such people remain, which makes even fewer remain, which makes even more leave...
That's understandable. You shouldn't submit yourself to something online if it continuously saddens you. I do hope that you can visit for the party when Freddi Fish 2 gets here. Bye for now, and I also hope that whatever you choose to do next with your time brings you 20x more joy than here!

As somebody else said, it's kind of the inevitable result of any community that gets popular.
I get the feeling that GOG originally intended it to be a place where people could occasionally ask questions about games and had no idea it would turn into someplace so tight-knit.

Can't post, GoG is having a fit.

EDIT: Now I can:

zeogold: So instead of addressing peoples' issues
So now I have to "address people's issues" who resort to calling me names even though I've been nothing but civil to them in the past?

And the Frenchie I've barely uttered a word to prior to this.

But no, I have to address their issues.....

zeogold: It's actions like this you're doing here that get you the "troll" label.
Actions like what, like you jumping in for your French bum chum?

Actions like me having the temerity to reply when people misrepresent me and call me names?

And you keep whining about Tauto but you keep mentioning him and baiting him, just like you're doing here with me.

You just can't help yourself, I knew you couldn't.

BTW, Tauto has actually never been rude to me or jumped in when it didn't concern him.

Yet you have.

No need to quote more of this crap.

Kleetus: you are now on my hit list.
Oh noes, I'm so scared now... as if :P

Frankly, go ahead, I've dealt with far bigger and worse than you could ever hope or even dream to achieve, 2-Inch-kun.

Besides, you and your bestie Dtgreene can go and screw each other, as everyone here already knows what useless trolls you both are... you're really impressing no one here.

Don't bother with him, he's a worthless case. :D

Typical Frenchie, dragging other people into it.

GoG was so much better before inbred Euro trash like you came along trying to dictate to others.

Righteous, pretentious and a hypocrite rolled into one smelly Frenchie.

...you...do realize that GOG is literally a European store, right? Its major offices are located in Cyprus and Poland.

snowkatt hates cheese, and I'm from the Dairy State, home of the reigning World Champion cheese. At best, we'd tolerate each other. ; )

In all fairness it wasn't all wine and roses back in the old days either. There was a realy strong anti-Mac and anti-Mac user sentiment that hung around the forums sometimes back in the post-beta period, and IIRC it even extended towards Linux users. There was also a fair bit of vile and bitriol directed at console users and console gaming in general, too.

EnigmaticT was about the biggest Linux hater you could find and didn't hide it, so at least the Linux hate was sanctioned by the officials, which annoyed me big time back then.

OnTopic: This thread clearly has shown, that it was a good decision to leave the boards, I'll follow again now.
May things change someday and the community be valued again at bit more.

Ah yes, you reminded me of his infamous, "If we try to get our games working on Linux, we'll have to support them on a Raspberry Pi" (not his exact words) comment. That really got a lot of people upset, especially after he was soundly proven wrong time and time again by the main Linux users who posted about it.
The last four or so pages in this where thread alone are answers to the OPs reason for leaving (or being less involved).

Snowkatt, I always enjoyed the wierd little news you dropped by like that with the mini-nes. Don't let the bad stuff get to close to you.

"Love" is such a strong word. It can start wars, it can end wars, and it can make a grown man cry.
