yogsloth: I plunged approximately one gillion hours into Civ 1.

Then probably another squazillion hours into Civ 2 and its various mods and expansions.

Civ 3 I played around with it for a while, and then fired up Civ 2.

Civ 4 I kept meaning to get but kept forgetting about it.

Civ 5, I think, was Steam-only so I never even bothered to learn anything about it.

Civ 6 can go fly a kite.
And Civ 7?

Leonard03: I really was planning on just playing for an hour. Not the whole afternoon... and then it was supper time. :(
Even more relevant. ;)

JMich: Oh god, there goes another 200 hours...
avatar
Doc0075: 200 hours? My current total for Civ 5 is 1518 hours and rising.
Well, 200 hours for CIV V is normal, since it wasn`t that good, even with BNW. But if you ask for CIV IV (especially with the BASE mod) then I`m sure that I have about 10,000 hours or even more with it.

Johnathanamz: I made a wishlist to vote on not to long ago.

Vote if you want Sid Meier's Civilization VI released for sale on gog.com.

Are you insane, stupid or flat out trolling?

Looks like this year is RTS/4X/strategy games year for me. Currently playing (read: getting beaten by AI) Stellaris, soon Romance of the Three Kingdoms which will take hundreds if not thousands hours of my life, and then Civ 6.

Looks cool, but I'll see how the new stacking mechanic works. Civ 5 was a real dissapointment for me.

Tauto: And Civ 7?
It will fly a spaceship, of course.

I've had Brave New World on my WL for 3 gddmn years, and in all that time I've never seen it on sale for less than $7.49. Comes up at that sale price pretty often, but at this point I think I'm just going to write off ever playing it.

Never tried any Civ games, bit of an Anno person. They just don't look that exciting and of course I could be way off base:)

Tarm: I'm curious about the Support Units function. If they're powerful enough and you can add more than one to a "main" unit it might actually make up for this. At least enough.
avatar
Matewis: Yeah, and I totally think it's a move in the right direction, though I wouldn't be that conservative. I want any combinations to stack. Perhaps they'll see the light come Civ VII :D
Obviously I like the Army approach but you know me I try to stay positive. That with me liking game series to actually evolve, in a decent speed (Not too slow and no sudden sharp turns.), puts this on the positive side of things for me. :)

The Support Units feature that is.

It's hard for me to be unbiased since I've played every actual Civ game (including the spin-off Civ IV colonization, plus Alpha Centauri). But between them I'd wager I have spent thousands of hours. Beyond Earth is the only one I thought was a dud (from the demo) and never sunk meaningful time into.

Anyway the joke (and Beyond Earth being the other joke) is that one of the victory options in every iteration is to win a scientific victory by launching your spaceship to colonize some other planet.

That said, if you were starting to play Civ now you'd be doing it without nostalgia, and you'd get strongly competing views on which version you should play for the "true" Civ experience. Can't recall if I played any Anno (even as demo).

Tarm: Endless Legend have both City Districts and armies with several units and a tactical battle map. Try that if you haven't already. :)

Edit: Steam only as far as I know unfortunately.

adaliabooks: That does indeed look interesting, but not interesting enough for me to buy it on Steam...

Hopefully it might come here at some point.
Have a hunch that this is the AAA game launch in 2016 that CDPR talked about.

If so there's a good chance we'll get Endless Space too. I absolutely love that game. :D

If you are referring to Endless Legend, then no.
If you are referring to Civilization VI, maybe.

I was referring to Civ 6. Thought he was talking about it. Endless Space and Endless Legend could still come to gog i'd imagine but they are already out.

Highly recommend Anno 1404 Venice and modded with I.A.A.M.Very challenging game when set on hard.As for Civ ,I'll leave it alone. If you are looking for I.A.A.M. just Google it and see for yourself as I can't post links.

I'll second that; 1404 is a wonderful game, with or without I.A.A.M.
