Leonard03: I really was planning on just playing for an hour. Not the whole afternoon... and then it was supper time. :(

Also, one unit per tile sounds annoying and pointless.
I can certainly understand that...

I don't know.. it had it's advantages and disadvantages.
On one hand you didn't have to move your stack of 500 tanks each turn (or wait for them to move automatically if they were on a route), but on the other hand you were much more restricted in the number of units you had so when you lost some it really set you back during an attack (though as the enemy had less units defending to this does kind of off set itself)
Looking forward to it. The even numbered Civs are the best ones.

JMich: In Civ V there are cities you control directly, and puppet cities where you don't have full control over, unless you annex them.
So, basically cities where you can't turn the AI off?

avatar
JMich: Each city over 3 you have increases the research cost (and production cost for small wonders) by a percentage, so you may find yourself conducting faster research with fewer cities (for example).
That... doesn't make sense to me. What is the thematic reason they give for that?

JMich: It's all about finding the correct balance between expanding and managing,
I like the sound of that, their implementation seems weird though.

avatar
JMich: though that doesn't mean you can't control half the map while only controlling 4 cities. Hell, it might even be easier to do it like that.
That goes against all of my Civ instincts XD

Could you still have more than one unit fortified in a city?

As far as I remember it was based on the idea that the bigger your empire the harder it was to govern (I can't think of the word for it now) so you were penalised in certain areas for having more cities.

Not that I remember (but cities had their own defences too)

Basically computer controlled cities that provide you resources, until you decide that you'd rather control said cities yourself. You can't turn them back into puppets again though, unless you lose and recapture them.

Corruption and bureaucracy. Certain policy/government/religion/science/buildings can help with that though.
Will wait for a GOTY edition, so that all the rest of the game's DLCs will be released and I can play the title as a whole.
How long does it take you to play an entire game of Civilizations? And how often do you win?

I think it takes me about a day and a half (at least) to play an entire game of FreeCiv, and that is if it starts well. If I can pass a certain point t without starting a fight (few neighbours) I can reach Alpha Centauri on easy mode.
While it looks nice I would be very happy with earlier Civilization games on gog. But still interesting improvements. Only wish they would get rid of one unit per hex limit since CIV 5 changes in to a slug fest when you go to war. 1-2 hours for one city conquered is too much.

not gonna spend a lot like I did for civ V. Going to wait for the GOTY edition.
Looking forward to it.
Still trying to figure out the first Civ game, but I'm getting there.
Hey, maybe this'll mean Civ IV comes to GoG soon. 2K has already proven recently that they are willing to put up some more games on GoG. Who knows what could happen?

Although I am kinda bummed. I wish they had released one more expansion to Beyond Earth. That game was getting really good

Hint: Gandhi has nukes.
I've become so used to the game dropping to the $6-$7 level that looking at the pre-order price makes me choke.

I think I got Civ V for $15 and then got BNW for about $10-12 I think. I didn't play it much after I got BNW though. Just got busy with other things.
I plunged approximately one gillion hours into Civ 1.

Then probably another squazillion hours into Civ 2 and its various mods and expansions.

Civ 3 I played around with it for a while, and then fired up Civ 2.

Civ 4 I kept meaning to get but kept forgetting about it.

Civ 5, I think, was Steam-only so I never even bothered to learn anything about it.

Civ 6 can go fly a kite.
