Market worth does not equal cash on hand.
I'm not sure how this would benefit CDPR, they're designing their own games not selling other people's games. GOG would be the right place for that as GOG is now both a distributor and publisher as of a year or so ago when they brought the various old SSI goldbox D&D games, Fantasy General and others to the store as a publisher.

Whether GOG should consider purchasing any of those games or not shouldn't be done on a whim because they happen to be up for sale though. If they were to consider it, they should base it on the cost to buy the game and the profit they stand to receive in return based off of purchasing statistics they already have (for any titles already present in the catalogue that is). That'd be a straight up investment for the most part and based on measureables.

For other games they don't sell and may not have stats on it would depend if they saw a game in a positive light that was a match for their selection criteria and projection of what the demand might be along with any associated costs of development/maintenance/support etc.

I don't think GOG should just buy games because someone is selling them though, but where they can do the math to make sound business decisions that suggest a return on investment for them. Definitely not CDPR though, wrong part of the organizational structure if you ask me.

Here's GOG's existing publishing catalogue: https://www.gog.com/games?sort=bestselling&search=gog&page=1

I keep seeing people mention this, but what the fuck is CDPR going to do with Earthworm Jim? Or Redneck Rampage? Or MDK?

Let someone else buy the IPs, someone that will perhaps actually do something new and interesting with them. CDPR is already fully concentrated on Cyberpunk 2077, as they should be. Besides, they make story rich and fleshed out RPGs. They don't need to own a single IP on that list.

I hope Deep Silver/Volition get Freespace, and I hope Parallax get Descent back. The FPS titles would be better off with a company like Night Dive or Devolver, and I'm sure a company like Nordic would eat up games like Sacrifice, MDK and Giants.

I think the only reason GOG self-published the D&D and WH40K titles is because whoever owned them didn't want to bother with ANY of it, not even earning any money off sales.

Well, GOG could always buy the rights to prevent them from falling to EA, Activation, and that obscure Russian developer that might be a front for the Mafia, and then using their noggins, sell the properties off to studios that GOG trusts not to screw things up/milk the cow until the bone shows.

I somehow doubt EA or Activision would care about buying these IPs, what with their cash cows they already own.

Even if they were interested, it's not like CDP/GOG could beat them in a bidding war (assuming that the sale will be an auction).

Toshi.703: I would like to submit CD Projekt Red as a stronger buyer! CDPR is a perfect company to do it.

+ Have the money (worth $1B),

What CDPR needs is a good catalog of IPs. They need not look any further than Bethesda and what they did with Interplay's Fallout IP. Remember that? :)
cd projekt red doesnt have the money
they have around 150 million dollars if that
the witcher 3 made them around 90 to 100 million

the majority of that money is used to keep the company afloat and bankroll cyberpunk 2077
and all it takes is one mistep for it to come crashing all down

square lost 90 million dollars on the spirits with in and this was at the height of their popularity yet it nearly destroyed the company

cd projekt red does not need to buy IP's willy nilly nor can they afford any costly mis steps

what they need however are original ip's and a more or less fixed cashflow

the interplay ip's are also dormant and its been quite a while since nay of their titles beyond fallout were popular or elevant

too long didnt read : cd projekt red is better of taking it slow and building up an cataloge of their own then spending cash they dont have buying ancient ip's from dead publishing houses lest they become a dead publishing house
I don't see any of Interplay's catalogue listed here as being a good fit for CDPR. At this point, CDPR is known for their strong RPG designs and good writing. Pairing that to "Kingpin" or "Boogerman" seems like a bad fit.

I'd rather see CDPR build their own original IPs, weaving in elements that people within the company can align themselves with. After three Witcher games and Cyberpunk 2027, I'm sure these talented creatives will have developed some of their own fresh ideas.
Yet another of those posts?

Three things:
First, no matter how much you may love GOG and the Witcher series, you should be realistic and acknowledge that CD Projekt is still a relatively small company and doesn't have the cash to buy much of anything.

Second, CD Projekt is still identified as a RPG developer, they have no reason to buy IPs that are not RPGs at this point.

Third, you should recognize that it's not in CD Projekt or GOG's business model to own every single abandoned IP in the gaming industry. It would be an utterly pointless waste of money to own the sacrifice IP for instance, unless they planned to make a game based on it in the next few years.
CDPR has never published any games except their own? GOG has self published a few older games. How much would those IPs be worth? (or go for?)
And they should buy this lightsabre. It's awesome. I call it the overcompensabre.
