You just assumed their gender! Triggered!!!! Seriously though, there's no issue the way it was shown in the video. If they start pandering, that's when the bitching and moaning is justified.

4-vektor: And just fyi, on top of all gender related stuff, read the Wikipedia articles about intersex and chromosomal variability. There aren’t only XX and XY people walking this earth. I know, it’s complicated. But it exists. And it exists more often than you think.
Intersex people are sick of woke rapists.

Starmaker: Ahh, here's the drama thread!

re: pandering

It's not pandering, you galaxy brains.

GameRager: Actually it is and it's being done to sell the game to such people. Do you honestly think they just chose to make it not male/female and based on body type/voice out of the blue or to be nice?
No, it's being done to stay true to the art and accurately portray the projected future. Because that's where we're actually heading. For example, scientists right now are researching muscle growth to produce artificial meat. I'm pretty sure that right after the tech becomes commercially available for food production, people will try growing their own muscles (and kill themselves trying, or suffer terrible consequences and commit suicide afterward, or perhaps succeed.) People right now are encoding their buttcoin wallet strings into DNA and injecting themselves with it. Do you seriously think it won't get worse?

Have you read (say) Ubik? Did you notice how everyone in the book wears sparkly neon muumuus or equally ridiculous clothing? What do you think is more likely - that Philip Dick was trying to get the Fat Crossdresser #1 Choice award, or that he was trying to accurately portray ridiculous fashion in the near future, having witnessed hippies?

Gandos: Source?
Look up "Vancouver Rape Relief", there's plenty of sources. Rapists have been trying to force the center to hire them as counselors for ages.

Oh, noes. A game with a character that's neither a man or woman (or it's both).

Such tragedy. Y, CDPR, y? Now the OP can't play

So I looked it up. I assume the 'attack' richlind was referring to was the act of vandalism (graffiti sprayed on their door) the center was recently subject to (though the way they worded it, I thought it was like an actual physical attack or at least a protest). Didn't find anything about rapists trying to get hired as counselors, though.

Though, I will say, I'm not sure how appropriate this topic is in this thread, considering this has little to do with Cyberpunk 2077. Still, an interesting subject.

Gandos: Sooo...what's the issue? We're talking about a setting where people graft metal, neon lights and even animal parts onto themselves. By comparison, the ability to mix and match sex characteristics is not only basic, but mundane by comparison.

If CD Projekt Red adhering more closely to the setting makes it 'woke', then arguably the setting and even the genre as a whole qualifies.
I answered this to several others.....it's(to me and some others) not how applicable this is to the setting but WHY they might have done it. If they did it to pander(it is very likely) and get good press/sell copies it's not as good as them doing it just to be nice or out of the blue.

So then why even call it "body type" if it's just a terminology change?

The only reason I see them doing it this way is to sell more copies.

If you honestly believe that I don't know what to tell you. Not saying you are 100% likely to be wrong, but just saying that if you can think that without proof(especially given the current trend in media of all types to pander to such people/groups) then I don't know what to tell you that would convince you otherwise.

Less than 2% is not a whole lot, though.

4-vektor: 1 in 50 people is a lot! That means it’s much more common than a lot of publicly much better known genetic anomalies. And certainly much more common than the vast majority of people would ever imagine. That means that in the US, there are about as many people with chromosomal disorders as there are Native Americans.
And some of these people are the willing dupes of our eugenicist overlords, who've turned them into radicalized marxist provacateurs.

Because that wasn't the reason given. No one said "This fits better with the setting/lore". They instead said "It will be more inclusive to make this change".

You are making excuses.

Okay, but it's not like 'doing it to be nice' and doing it to 'get good press/sell copies' are mutually exclusive. In fact, the former is arguably the most appropriate manner in which to achieve the latter.

Also, this does make me wonder to the exact extent of your principle here. Does this mean that you are in general against game developers responding to fan requests/criticisms with changes under any circumstances?

That's not a 'gatcha' question, by the way. I'm legitimately trying to understand if this is always your stance with these kind of situations or if there are specific aggravating factors in this particular case. I am reminded of the Mass Effect ending controversy, where the 'Extended Cut' DLC spawned similar complaints.

I'm aware that the reason given was inclusivity. That doesn't mean that the change isn't more in line with the setting/lore than the previous state of affairs, thus making it an overall positive change.

It can be that way, but the timing/how they worded it in the press release/etc all make me think it's just to sell copies and placate some groups and keep them from making bad press before the game launch.

As for me and your question: I am ok with such if it's not done to pander to groups just to sell more copies & get good press from such groups and their supporters, with a few exceptions(like reversing said bad pandering, even if done to also recoup any losses from the initial pandering).

==================
You cannot ascribe such without proof or precedent(as we have already with such groups doing such in many cases to sell product).
