foad01: ...
foad01, do you live with your parents? Have you ever kissed a girl? Do you get into violent arguments at work over whether or not the Klingons were, in fact, capable of hearing sounds beneath the normal threshold ... then get out the Star Trek companion and try to look up some technical info to prove it? If Superman and Captain Kirk got in a fight, who would win? Have you ever had a wet dream with complex sexual symbolism about Leonard Nimoy? Do you go roller skating alone frequently and do the "Macarena" when it comes on? Have you spent hours carefully cutting out pictures of Jenny Garth from magazines and gluing them into a large collage? Do you think of $24,000 a year as "serious money?" Did you camp out in a sleeping bag to get early tickets for the Megadeth concert? When was the last time you had a good, hot shower? Do you feel a ponytail makes a man look more masculine, like Steven Seagal? Do you have a lifetime gold member subscription to MINIATURE HOBBYIST? Is your garage/apartment decorated with huge posters of ABBA and THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E.? Do you get livid and angry whenever somebody suggests that the Addams family movie was better than the old series? Do you find yourself fascinated with rare issue models of Pez dispensers?

unfortunately GOG became the Steam alternative with their wrongdoings, it used to be different (better) type of platform but dropped down to rotten disgrace

it's sad seeing how good platforms, products and services become bad by mimicking "the successful" ones, but that's a common thing in last years

Zoom needs to actually be releasing games to be GOG alternative. GOG will never be a steam alternative until they release more porn games then steam. Haha

foad01: Spreading lies about the modability of Skyrim's GOG version is a sign of desperation.
Hi. If you are talking about my post where I was asking about the mod situation, please allow me to clarify. And thanks to those including Longcat who stuck up for me.

I was genuinely asking a question. Depending on the answer to my question, I would deem the situation relevant to boycotting (as a hypothetical example, if tomorrow GOG released "Galaxy Mods" and went on to say that Skyrim can now only be modded via "Galaxy Mods", I would consider that relevant to many boycotters, as the Galaxy-creep on this site has gotten worse over the years, though is arguably stagnant/in hibernation for the time being).

Certainly, I had no ill will. I am thrilled to have the game here and bought the more expensive version even (something I have generally not done in recent years, due to my opinions of what I see as GOG's direction during this time). I will say that, if it is not possible to mod offline, I would consider a refund. However, thanks to helpful posts by AB2012 and others in this topic and other topics, it looks like the game can be modded offline.

I do not have a ton of technical know-how, but also resent clients/mod managers/etc. Consider that this is a difficult position to be in since I have to use help of others, or miss out on stuff. When searching on my own, I may encounter information that I need a little help interpreting.

When I looked up mods and Skyrim....in the release thread (where I had also asked), on the gamepage, on the gog subreddit, on Nexus mods discussion, all the impression I was getting was that a mod manager, specifically Vortex app, was required.

By the way, here is a topic from 4 days ago on the Elder Scrolls gog subforum: "PSA You must use Nexusmods Vortex until something better comes", which in the OP includes:

GOG is working on a mod utility, or at least it's inferred in their Skyrim announcement. However, until then, I am 99% certain you need to use NexusMods Vortex utility to install mods in the GOG version since it's a custom build of Skyrim.

I tried for about an hour to install 3 basic mods without it (Unofficial patch, Climates of Tamriel, Skyland Landscapes) - nothing would work until I installed Vortex, set it up to work with Skyrim GOG version, and downloaded the mods again through Vortex.

I even got extra settings for Climates of Tamriel installing through Vortex.

I am NOT saying Vortex will always be required. I am saying that Vortex is required until GOG releases its mod solution for Skyrim.
Gee, I wonder why I was confused and thinking Vortex or an upcoming Galaxy feature might be necessary to access the mods.

I ask anyone participating in this topic to please leave out the weird personal attacks, dictionary definition games, and other such things diverting away from the points being made in this topic.

It seemed like GOG was trying to be a Steam alternative, but it didn't quite work out how they'd hoped. It's a common mistake to want to be all things to all people so you can grow, but it's the DRM-free and good old games that made GOG modestly successful. Don't know if it's too late for them to reverse it but the current state of it's customer support sure isn't helping. Skyrim will help for awhile but that's not something they can do every day. Improving customer support is, and it would bring me back, though I don't buy that many games.

There's a saying here in the Southern US: you have to dance with who brought you. When you make it to the big time, people tend to change strategies. But it's important to stick to your roots and remember what made you famous or good to begin with.

CDP shot itself in the foot with the Cyberpunk release. If that hadn't been bungled GOG might not have gimped it's customer service. I suspect it's at least partly out of necessity. So many bad decisions that went into that debacle, worst among them going with a new engine that disallowed using existing assets from their other games. And then they tried to build Rome in a few years. They had no appreciation of what they were really capable of delivering, and by the time they did it was way too late. If it had been a solid release they would have decisively made it to the big time. Now it doesn't look like they ever will, which is how it usually goes in business, but it didn't have to end that way.

Yes, you have to manage to the market, as they say, but they had a nice cushion after the success of The Witcher 3, which gave the company some leeway to navigate the harsh realities of life. Ah well, what are you going to do?

Like No Man's Sky the game has redeemed itself. It was successful and it is still successful.

HappyPunkPotato: Does anyone else keep thinking rude things when people mention the forum's CoC? No, just me? Never mind then.

Anyway, please do move me from the boycott list to the sympathetic list Time4Tea. Or if you decide to start a "reduced spending" list to stop the bickering over the definition of the word "boycott", then that's the list for me until GOG either prove or disprove their re-commitment to DRM-free.

Longcat: I think this deserves a bumb so that Op doesn't miss it.
Thanks! I have just updated the list to reflect the recent requests (I've been crazy busy over the past week).

Hello everyone.
I wanted to give you an update with regards to this thread.

Not long ago we implemented some Forum changes, like the removal of the rep system and downvotes, which were designed to improve your overall Forum experience. This thread however, was left open; it was a decision driven by our will to keep a space for voicing constructive criticism. Unfortunately, it’s become apparent that it no longer serves its intended purpose.

This thread has also been brought to my attention countless times by different members of our Community - in reports for both minor and major CoC breaches, or with concerns that it should not be allowed on the Forum.

We are, and always have been, open to feedback - constructive criticism is extremely valuable to us because it helps us grow and provide all of you with a better experience. What I cannot accept on the Forum however, are drastic CoC violations resulting in slander, insults, antagonization, or fights among the Community.

With that in mind, I’ve made the decision to lock this thread, effective immediately. Any similar threads created from now on will be treated in the same fashion.

I would like to highlight that discussion regarding GOG.COM, Galaxy, or anything GOG related, as well as your feedback - be it constructive criticism or any suggestions you may have - is and always will be welcome here, provided it doesn’t violate our Forum rules.
If you have any questions or feedback regarding this decision, you can direct them to me - as a reminder however, please keep in mind that moderating actions cannot be disputed within the forum itself.
