looks pretty good visually imo

devoras: Maybe I'm just getting old, but my first response to a company taking a good older game and slapping an extra number on it is to assume they're doing that just to take advantage of the name and aren't going to make a good game.
So your first response just ignores that this is Larian, a game developer not known for doing what you're describing?

teceem: I understand that you have your preference. Me, I like both TB & RTwP - they're just different "flavors" to me.
But saying "more closely adhere to a real tabletop setting" just sounds like a poor excuse to say that your preference is somehow superior.
Yeah, adherence to the pen and paper game isn't a great reason to do things. It's a video game, and has to make its own decisions based on that. However I do agree both have their upsides and downsides, RtwP can often feel like a total clusterf**k and trash mob combat can be super tedious in turn-based. It really depends on the game and how it's done.

Given how successful their recent Divinity games were though, there's about a 1 in a million chance turn-based wasn't the focus for this game.

zazak09: I wasn't expecting a carbon copy of the originals, but I hoped there would at least be some resemblance. Based on these screenshots, this is Original Sin 3 with a different coat of paint.
Mabye its less looking like Original Sin and more basing off the art style of 5th Edition D&D Forgotten Realms.

devoras: Hmm.. I'm actually cautiously optimistic now. Maybe I'm just getting old, but my first response to a company taking a good older game and slapping an extra number on it is to assume they're doing that just to take advantage of the name and aren't going to make a good game. But.. if they do a good job on the story, there's an awful lot of interesting things they can do, in the screenshots they mention illithids and githyanki so they might be taking the lore and world seriously.

I like how it looks, but I would want it to have d&d combat mechanics if it's going to call itself a baldur's gate game. It's probably asking too much, but I would much prefer the more in depth 3.5 edition rules instead of the blander 5th edition ones too. The divinity games were really good, so even though it's possible that this is actually divinity sin 3 in all but name instead of a baldur's gate game, I would still be interested in it.
All we do know is that the story will probably have nothing to do with the Bhaalspawn of prior games.

I agree... it didn't feel like that in BG1&2 though - to me. I paused a lot in the harder battles; and less in the minor ones (making them faster than if they were all turn-based).

Is there a game that implemented both systems (as a choice) and made them both equally "good"? If not, maybe Larian succeeds at it?!
I know PoE (1 or 2) added TB after the initial release, but I don't know if it's any good... (both PoE games are still waiting in my backlog)

Too many disappointments, almost nobody gets it right. I don't consider any company infallible anymore; there was a time when I thought any new bioware game was going to be amazing, any company can fall at any time. Also old game ips, movies and tv shows are being destroyed faster than I would have thought possible, to the point where I fully expect any new media based on an old ip is going to be garbage. Every now and then I'm wrong and it's a pleasant surprise, but not often.

Still, this game looks like it has potential, worth keeping an eye on.
Only a few screenshot, but damn, i'm excited for the game. :)
Larian = insta-purchase!

I get what you're saying... but this topic is about a specific game, made by a specific developer - not about games in general "nowadays". Yes, it can turn out to be a cluster fuck - but so were many many games in the far past.
So, yeah, you sound a bit nostalgic... and old. ;-)

The way I think: the Baldur's Gate series were great games + Larian made great games = Nothing is certain, but there's a high probability for a positive outcome here. I don't see how this relates to e.g. the latest EA/Ubisoft/Bethesda/... published game.
Gameplay now:

One of the few new games in recent years that actually made me wanna play after seeing screenshots. If they can keep the silly humor from Divinity: Original Sin out from the game, it has the potential to be really good.

Not bashing the humor in Divinity, it works there, I just don't think Baldur's Gate would be Baldur's Gate with it.
Watching it right now. I'm just going to wait until it's over, so I can skip around. Watching someone else playing a game in real time (even if it"s turn based :-P ) is boring... to me.

Baldur's Gate is a series that gave us Misnc. What's wrong with the humor in Divinity?
The gameplay is looking good, hopefully they'll give us the release date at the end of the their live stream.

A lot of good humor, but the baldur's gate games were more... selective?
Welp, Turnbased confirmed. Great for me but some people are not going to be happy.

Looks great so far, definitely going to be getting this :D
