Now that spring is upon us, there is plenty of spring cleaning to take care of and as more people around the globe practice social distancing, it is the perfect time to stay home and catch up on some new games or other classics you may have missed out on.

As our Spring Sale is underway, offering over 2,500 deals, there is plenty to celebrate now, like the return of the Darklands and Slave Zero to our catalog, under a new digital publisher. We also thought it would be the perfect time to introduce you to a handful of other classic games that are now available on GOG.COM thanks to Ziggurat Interactive. You can check them out below!

NAM
In NAM, you play as Alan 'The Bear' Westmoreland, a Marine Corps sergeant. Your mission is simple - survive through 34 single and multiplayer levels. There’s even 8-person PVP if you are looking to frag out with friends.

If first-person, militaristic style games are your style and you are a fan of classic titles like DOOM II and Duke Nukem 3D, this is one that is definitely worth checking out.

Elite Warriors Vietnam
Here’s another militaristic shooter that takes place in Vietnam, but instead of first-person, Elite Warriors Vietnam is a third-person shooter released in 2005.

Your mission is to infiltrate Laos and help out any way you can. Explore lush environments and handle squad management tasks as you train and put together the best teams for the jobs ahead - including rescuing pilots, capturing soldiers, and more.

Line of Sight Vietnam
Starting to notice a bit of a theme here? Also taking place in Vietnam during the war, Line of Sight Vietnam is a shooter that lets you play in both first-person and third-person, so regardless of your preference, you’re good to go.

Covering 12 single-player missions, you play as Pvt. Chris Egan, a US Army sniper. You’re tasked with removing a variety of enemies, sometimes alone, sometimes with an NPC squadmate that you can give orders to. In addition to giving orders, you can also play from their perspective during the missions to add even more ways to play.

Deadly Dozen
The first non-Vietnam game on our list, Deadly Dozen is a first-person shooter that takes place during World War II. You control a squad of 12, as you tear your way through German-occupied territories and other landmark locations from WW II.

If you like hand-crafting teams for a variety of missions, Deadly Dozens is the perfect title for that. With each mission, you’ll get a briefing, and from there decide which members of your squad are best suited for the mission at hand.

Also, if Deadly Dozen, Line of Sight Vietnam, and Elite Warriors Vietnam seem like something you are interested in, you can snag all three with a special series discount.

Fields of Glory
Fields of Glory is a bit different than the other titles on this list, but if you love realistic military strategy games, this is one worth checking out.

Unlike the other shooters on the list, Fields of Glory is a pure real-time strategy game. It highlights four of the historical battles of Napoleon's Waterloo campaign, as well as two additional battles. This game prides itself on its accuracy, so if you are a history buff, this is definitely one worth looking at.

Well, there you have it. Five new titles that are available on GOG.COM from Ziggurat Interactive. If you are looking for something militaristic, any of these titles are great choices to dive into.

And don’t forget to do some of that spring cleaning between matches!

karnak1: There is no cumulative discount for the Ziggurat games. That promotion only works for the Witcher, Deep Silver, 1C and Ubisoft bundles.

Hmm. I was imagining that the discount mentioned was the 33% one. If that's the case then it's weird why GOG hasn't fixed it yet. The promo is ambiguous.

Are we talking achievements here as you and some other people advocate for or something more significant missing ? Like content or updates ?.

I'm merely interested to know since i haven't heard anything more missing, not seeking a debate on achievements here.

Edit: it seems Karnak already asked my question, was a bit slow to finish it up.

In case any of the "Blues" is reading this it'd be excellent if Darklands had cloud-saving enabled as well (almost all of the Ziggurat games have).

I'm glad someone mentioned 7554. I reached out to the developer maybe 5 or 6 years ago to see if they would be willing to publish on Steam or GOG, however, at that time they were not interested.

They released another game, Toy something to Steam Greenlight, so maybe that tune has changed.

They are also apparently called Hiker Games now.

I do not want to delve into the political here, so have tried to stay to the historical facts as we know them...

fronzelneekburm: Yah, sure. Then explain why China declared war on Vietnam in the late 70s, after the Americans had pulled out.
During the period of the Vietnam Conflict, North Vietnam's major backer was the Soviet Union, but not far behind them was China. Both countries had active support roles aiding North Vietnam (in fact China was instrumental in the French Indochina War that precipitated the Vietnam Conflict providing Vietnamese insurgents with weaponry, food, and training. Throughout the late 50's to the early 70's China actively sent military, social, and political advisors to the Communist Vietnamese (at one point China had sent over 300,000 People's Liberation Army troops to aid North Vietnam).

-- But after the Vietnam Conflict --

Vietnam kept forces in Cambodia.

China demanded they leave Cambodia. The Vietnamese forces did not... and that precipitated the Sino-Vietnamese War. The Chinese installed the Khmer Rouge, but Vietnam's consistent attacks -- and continually worry that the Soviet Union (who had become antagonistic toward China since the Sino-Soviet Split, a difference in Communist doctrine starting in the mid 50's) )would aid Vietnam -- made it impossible for China to keep their interests in Cambodia.

Many have a tendency to think of communist countries as monolithic... all experiencing "group think"... but like any other system, their are dissenters, differences of opinion, and even breakdowns in relations... and wars.

fronzelneekburm: Yah, sure. Actually, the North fought for national sovereignty, whereas the South was nothing but a bitch state to Western powers.
What eventually became the Vietnam Conflict / War was actually started in teh fading days of WWII by a revolution against the French colonization of Vietnam.

Ho Chi Minh -- although a communist -- fought alongside the OSS in ousting the Japanese from the region during WWII. The OSS decided to work with Ho Chi Minh because he was seen as more nationalist than communist and sympathetic toward the US. In fact Ho Chi Minh would on more than one occasion ask for the US's aid because he saw the US as a kindred revolutionary spirit (he would refernce more-then-once the American Revolutionary War / War of Independence). It was only after the US refused to aid him in ousting the French that Ho Chi Minh sided more closely with the communists.

I think we can all agree that the Vietnam Conflict / War had a terrible cost for all involved... and if you look close enough at any war you can find many villians on every / any side.

I'm reminded of a documentary where a US soldier and a North Vietnamese soldier met in the early 2000's. They had been in the same battles, lost many friends, and embraced as "brothers"... and cried.

This is the reality of war.

As we play games about real people in real conflicts, it's great to have fun, but spend a moment to think about the real conflicts... and maybe read a little on them. Often they are more complex than commonly portrayed.

Game developers typically represent the country they are from, or where they intend to sell the most copies of their games. You could always look for games developed in communist countries, Im sure youll only find the NV perspective in N Vietnam if you would like visiting there. I heard N Korea has their own version of the internet, maybe they produced their own copies of games depicting conflicts like this. Fortunately in free societies people are able to express their own ideas, so you can play the communists in games like Battlefield Vietnam. Just not this extensive list of three games from a single developer.
