GothikOrk: I'm sure this has been brought up before, but it seems like GOG has lost all interest in reviving classic DOS games. Its a shame, because we need these classics to be preserved and not lost to time. I hoped GOG would be a force for that. Either they've decided to compete with Steam, releasing modern and indie games, or maybe they just can't secure any more rights to vintage titles?
If anyone has been following GOG more than I have, please let me know if there will be any more classics on the way, or if I can just ignore the site until Banner Saga 3.
Also, does anyone know if there are any other companies or platforms that might pick up where GOG left off, or are they the only one? I know Steam has brought out some old titles, but it wasn't their main focus like it used to be GOG's.
First of all, not all old games, DOS or otherwise, are classic (there was worthless garbage in the DOS era, too), and not all "retro" games are old (and GOG releases
plenty of the new ones). ;) Second, there are
reasons why they don't choke us with a never-ending stream of new old releases.
But that's not to say they don't still release plenty of old games. There follows a (hopefully up-to-date) list of the pre-2010 games released (or re-released) here since the beginning of this year. Just for you, I also
bolded all the games I know of that had DOS releases -- though other titles in the list were originally from that era, too (like the Neo-Geo games and the
Wonder Boy remake), so they should kinda count, even if they never saw a DOS (or even home computer) release.
