Oops, thanks for the notice. I knew XCom2 is not a Kickstarter project but I don't know why I always remembered XCom Enemy Unknown as a Kickstarter game.

But my question is still valid i believe, what is the reason xcom2 costs so much more than enemy within? Just because it got popular i suppose...

Well, you got me wrong.It is probably my fault but what I was trying to mean is, they released nearly the same game with 60$. Without any big development, it is so wrong to sell a sequel with 60$ price tag. That is of course their decision, but it just feels wrong. I really enjoyed xcom enemy unknown but I have never thought of buying xcom 2 after watching the gameplay. Also some people claim that xcom enemy unknown was way more fun compared to xcom 2, and they say it got bad in challange/fun balance.

Yeah, I should've added that the alien overlord would though allow all current developments to finish. There are some in development titles that I wouldn't be able to do without, like M&B2 and Terraria Otherworld.

And Dwarf Fortress of course, if that ever gets finished :P I hope that one day we get an alchemy update that adds potions to the game, but at this stage I'll settle for a UI update :P

I would oppose that. I'd probably equip a Hercules fighter with two Prometheus guns, and fly with my squadron to fight that evil anti-gaming overlord.

If we failed in our mission, I guess i personally own enough games for the rest of my life, but how about the future generations? I'm thinking about them too.

As in the first decade of the 20th century? No, I don't think I would have, similar to how I wouldn't have been happy (I don't think) to only play games from the 1980s. The point is that by now there are enough great games spanning several decades that I would be completely content (well, at least almost completely) sticking to what we have up to this point. But only from the point of view of being able to sit down in front of my PC and have a blast playing a game. As for gaming as a whole I completely agree. I'm sure that we'll miss out on many great classics to-be if game development stopped, which would suck.

You're right. The Ai can't cross river or sea by ship and that shows. Though the AI is frequently the defining part of a strategy game and it's rarely very good. Still, the AI of the first age of wonders is overall quite good I thought.

I wouldn't be bothered too much. About 90% of time I play games from the previous "generation" (older than four years, for instance), so my habits would shift only slightly. I have a lot of games I haven't even tried, probably never will, so that scenario would only make me play them anyway. I'd still be bummed out, because I do quite enjoy the occasional new game.

You could claim the same of any sequel. XCOM 2 has new assets, new mechanics, new skins, procedurally generated destructible maps, and a dynamic geoscape that gives aliens autonomy and players the ability to instigate events rather than merely react. It’s not like it’s a roster update.

No. There are loads of MORE THAN ENOUGH games, already! Endless clones of the same god-damned game (thankfully, some are really nice and interesting miraculously), stagnant ideas, nothing new, bad quality and cheap recycling, lots of MMOs (thankfully though, their initial craze has almost died out for good) and the same godawful sports games year and year again, god i hate sports (conventional ones) and especially games on them...

Since witcher 3 is out, i wouldn't mind those aliens erasing the possibility of creating new games, forever. No new game managed to make me say "Hell, this new baby is better than the good old", plus most modern and AAA titles suffer from untreatable consolitis, crappy optimization for pc, being a terrible port AND having a disastrous launching period, until patches and fixes are out.

Bring the 10 games i really want and they didn't make it to GOG (yet) and then yes, please eradicate new garbage from polluting our systems for good! I am perfectly fine with it.
