Was just looking at browsers in case there is anything new come out, and noticed Epic Privacy browser which I had not heard of. Now I am sure we are aware of the main browsers which I have installed and use Firefox mostly
Chrome (and derivatives) - memory hogs, no privacy, telemetry, fast, good compatability.
Firefox - stable, ok speed, has drm module.
M$ IE/Edge - awful in every way and still jammed into OS.

So always interested to see if anything has the same sort of compatibility as Firefox, with more security. So would be interested in thoughts on Epic Privacy browser:

Or alternatives.

To add, I am trying to move to new software with more privacy, switching all search to DuckDuckGo, looking at encrypted email for examples.

I've never heard of this, and I'm the kind of guy who has used Mosaic and Lynx for a laugh.

Indeed, it’s a odd one. New to me. Comes with inbuilt vpn and such like. Will have to give it a try. I don’t use plugins and things, so should be ok.

The inbuilt VPN is interesting. I have Opera installed just for that but really don't like it, well I kinda don't like anything that auto-updates itself without consent... (Not related but) Specially a Operating System!
Will probably give Epic it a try...

Can't say about Epic browser -unknown to me 'till now, but when it comes to encrypted email, would suggest Proton. There are paid/free versions, am on paid but free comes with all that's needed but only 500MB space, but if you're after secure email for anything to do with your online transactions, that's one to go for.

Hard to hack and if you really want to go for the even harder still, you can go for 2 password instead of one. One to log on, the other to decrypt your mail. Downside to that is that if you ever forget the decrypting one, you will totally loose access to your stored emails.

They use a Google Chrome base, then pretend to provide good privacy?
They want us to trust them, but still hide the source code of their software?

There is no way I would even download their browser.

seem to remember hearing they were working on a browser (or working with another company on one) though.

Edit: as far as mobile browsers go, the DuckDuckGo one is worth a look!

Not sure about that. I know there is a Proton browser but it has nothing to do with Proton Mail (Swiss), that browser is Russian. Interesting they chose that name though, especially given the fact that Russia has blocked the use of Proton Mail at the end of January!

Incidentally, have never used it for I have a high end one, but there is a VPN included with Proton Mail if users want it, unless that has changed, also available for free users.

Brave is quite well ranked in terms of privacy/security, Firefox too since you can pretty much lock it down, Chrome of course in an epic fail in that but that's not really surprising. Tor is one also but caution as their exit nodes are notorious for IP leaks. And because entry nodes do see your IP anyway, that's one browser best to use in conjunction with VPN that offers TOR over VPN settings. Any compromised Tor entry/exit nodes are bad news for the user.

DuckDuckGo indeed has an honorable mention for Android/iOS

Its a solid VPN - actual privacy (unlike most) and security with decent speeds (at least where I am) on the free version, so really very good for using public wifi networks etc.

Yes, I am looking at proton mail for email. Am already using DuckDuckGo as search rather than google. It’s mostly the browser, want it to be secure but functional.

Ah yes you're right, forgot Brave too went the (open source) Chromium. Haven't looked much into the privacy aspect change if any, but such a move in order to be more cross-platform, if at the expense of privacy will come back to haunt them.

Have you tried Brave? It's based on Chrome without the nasty stuff.

See above discussion. I might get brave as a secondary browser in case something doesn’t work in main browser. However even mentioning something from google is likely to have upload all my data to a google spy net somewhere. So trying to avoid using anything from them, even in part. Also, does brave sort out the huge memory overheads?

I don’t know if you noticed, but Epic Browser is using Google Chrome as a base too.
Sadly, it’s hard to find browsers that are not Google Chrome skins nowadays…
