MarkoH01: Oh I can tell you, they are. Keep away from them at all costs. I am so lucky it did not eat me as well. ;)

GR00T: Not sure about the connection between the wishlist and the forum (not really sure I understand the question though, either), but they did specifically state that the wishlist does help to convince publishers to put their games on GOG.
Before the update to the site, that added the top section where you can now directly select "Community wishlist" under the community "menu", didn't you hate to select "all forums" to have access to the wislists. I'm wondering how linked the two parts are and if they change the forum what impact (if any) it'd have on the wishlists being available. There might not be any link between those parts of the site, the only link might be that they think the forum and wishlists are where the community can express themselves. It just surprised me, back then, to see I had to go under the forum part of the site to have access to the wishlists of the community. That's where I got the impression both are somehat "linked".

I highly doubt that they are actually connected. The thing with "all forums" you mentioned probably is more a web design thing than an actual connection. I also doubt that they will throw away the wishlist since they mentioned how important it is. It may be that the wishlist will get some features as well, don't know, but I doubt that it will be affected just because of a new forum.

I just hope they aren't. I was mostly fishing for an answer by GOG as to whether or not both are linked (not necessarily thinking I'd get one; but when you don't ask, you don't know). I think it'd be a loss for all (GOG, the community and the devs / pubs) if that part was taken out of the site.

The wishlist has already changed once since I was here, without the main forum being changed. If you also count the options for movies and galaxy sections, that makes at least 3 changes.
Wishlist and forum have some overlap, but neither depends on the other.

Good to hear and thanks for the clarification.

Fairfox: Cash... machine? That's liek for weird people that don't use credit cards, right? :P
Hey, I HAD a credit card but I kust wanted to buy myself some small things so all I wanted was some pocket money.

Fairfox: Anyhoohar, yay for free Poland flights! Altho I don't know; I wasn't asked so clearly the initial plan was flawed and I have to discredit you. Discredit you all. In the face. With extreme prejudice.
Yes, I feel deeply ashamed that they picked me - but what could I have done? Obviously they just did not do their homework when they decided to not invite Fairfox but who am I to tell them whom to invite? So I thought I'd better go than let this go to waste ;)
This is really cool. I hope that GoG is able to take your feedback to heart and make GoG even better.

Thanks everyone for sharing.

MarkoH01: In fact the actual legal situation if gamekeys are to be handled different than the actual game itself is completely unclear. Just take a look at point II here:

https://www.it-recht-kanzlei.de/Thema/verkauf-computerspiele.html?page=3#sect_0
avatar
john_hatcher: Well it says that it is not clear, so it could possibly be illegal or not. Who knows. All know ... to cut this short and not always repeat myself. I won't change my mind on this. Sorry.
The point of a discussion has not necessary be to change someones mind. In many cases it's just adding arguments to broaden the own POV a bit. The end result can always be the same but more informations are never a mistake imo.

avatar
john_hatcher: On a side note, I would never ever sign anything I do not fully understand like a NDA in a foreign language ... though I don't know if your NDA was german or english.
Luckily it was in English otherwise at least 4 of us would not even know where to sign at all ;) But let me at least tell me that I'd also never sign something that I don't fully understand. Luckily my English was good enough to fully understand what I signed there.

avatar
john_hatcher: ....
but it should also be possible to talk about let's say the next game they are trying to release and maybe why it takes so long and why it maybe not come at all. If that is not possible, I don't see a good reason to go there. Just my stance on that.
What you are talking about are future business plans and the problem in talking about those is that there are contracts and obligations with publishers and devs of the game(s) in question involved and talking about those might endanger those future plans.

avatar
john_hatcher: As I said before, I really want to believe GOG (and your optimistic view), but first GOG has to deliver, because of what I said before. Then, and only then I might come back to terms with GOG.
Nobody would expect anything else. Words are word no matter who says them. When we are saying we believe them it still isn't a guarantee neither for you nor for us.

JDelekto: What's interesting is that this is so Willy Wonkaesque, but didn't have anyone clamoring for golden tickets. It seemed from the original post that there were more people invited, but only those six chose to visit
(noticed this post going back through the thread) There were also cases where people (I think one or two posted here) wanted to but couldn't visit, because of reasons like work commitments. (I couldn't get a passport in time.)
I'll go through the thread in its entirety when I have more time on my hands, but I just wanted to drop a thanks in here to JMich for sharing this and GOG for putting that event together. It definitely helps a bit in putting some of my fears to rest about changes at GOG and the direction everything has been taking in recent months/years.

What we were told is that some didn't have passports and couldn't get them in time, others couldn't get the time off, and others had personal reasons why they couldn't make it. It was never said outright, but I got the sense that no one actually refused on principle.

In my case, it was a 'hell yes, I want to go', but it was actually a dicey situation at work, since I actually didn't have enough leave to cover my absence. I managed to work out a deal where I'll pay back some hours to my employer by working extra on a few days though. But I can imagine that this isn't an option for some people, so would have prevented some from going on such short notice.

*side note: when it looked like I might not be able to go due to my employer appearing not to be willing to let me have the time, my wife said "well, then quit your job and go to Poland. This isn't something that's going to happen again." She's awesome.

This was my reason... I guess I should actually get around to getting one in case something like this ever happens again. xD
