FireMyth: he was being sarcastic buddy.

AkimboJoe: Ah, so he was! How did I not catch that the first time...
It's ok, without body or vocal cues, sarcasm can be difficult to pickup in just plain text, particularly when you are skimming through posts in a thread to reach the end.

Someone really needs to invent a universal symbol for sarcasm. Maybe kind of like a smiley but one that's very obviously sarcastic, e.g. one that roughly emulates the look and/or tone someone gives when saying something sarcastic.

Without this I believe everyone will not catch on sarcasm at least some of the time.

Unfortunately the two main ones discussed aren't readily accessible from more keyboards or available in most common fonts for most languages... Good to see someone was thinking about this way back in the 1580s (!!!!).

I've seen people use [sarcasm] [/sarcasm] in model of BB code, but that looks silly, and doesn't translate to general use.

Not entirely sure, but I think the SA forums might have that covered. Then again, it's SA; they have an emoticon for everything.

I can't remember where I saw it.. but this was suggested as a sarcasm font and I thought it worked.
