But this game was really underwhelming to me. I had heard so much about it and I went in expecting a really great RPG and all I got was an incredibly slow and boring game. The first time I tried playing it was right after I downloaded it. I played for about 5 minutes then gave up out of frustration. A few days later I gave it another try and through trial and error found out the basics, then promptly died and lost 40 minutes of gameplay. (This however was probably caused by autosaves spoiling me over the years)
But then I tried it again knowing that I need to save and how to play and I still found it pretty boring. So far there are none of the in depth dialogue and character building that I've heard talked about. Just a bunch of fights with rats and a rope that I need to find.
The battle system is pretty original, but originality does not always equal fun. Especially when I need to spend most of my action points reloading my gun that has no ammo counter and then end up getting gangbanged by a team of rats. I may give it another try eventually but for now I think I'll just stick with Fallout 3.

I'm guessing you were in diapers when this game came out.

so... judging from the fact that you are basically only fighting rats you haven't advanced much beyond the first cave you start in, maaaybe the second vault, both of which are ridiculously, ridiculously early in the game. Yes, compared to first person shooters this game isn't fast, but the game isn't meant to be fast, its a tactical turn based RPG with heavy emphasis on interaction and freedom of choice. And honestly, if you're losing to rats, you're doing something wrong... plus in the start if you haven't loaded up on small guns skill I wouldn't recommend wasting bullets on the rats, they aren't easy to come by to start off with, and without small guns skill you're going to be missing them about 70% of the time.
But, if you don't like it, you don't like it, but you haven't even scratched the surface yet (and yes the basic controls are tricky to figure out when you start)
From what I read you haven't even progressed beyond Shady Sands, you truly are a product of the modern gaming generation, honestly, it took a few hours to even scrape the surface of most RPGs a decade ago.
You read too many review for fallout 3 more like. Its fast paced, buy that. Its a great game. Now as for Fallout 1 and 2, they are superb games, and you should be ashamed you didnt get past the starting areas.... shame on you. GoG is about good old games, and so far as I can see, each game here is a great game. The fault lies with you.
or within his age, lots of "new gamers" cannot understand "our" love to those game because they loog so "ugly" they take "too long time" or are just to hard for them (hint: those games requires that you use your salad on your neck), i have seen too many people hailing to F3 (for example, one younger player - F1 is soooo boring and stupid game, i cannot kill rats with my gun at start, why i have this gun?).
I actually like the meticulous, slow paced combat. But it's definitely not for everyone. And I also liked how it just drops you in the world and lets you figure everything out. People who started out playing Fallout 3 will probably have a hard time going back.

There is an ammo counter, look at the little green dots to the right of the picture of your weapon (look at attached screenshot).
Also, reloading only takes 2 action points, if this prevents you from performing other actions during your turn, I'd recommend that you try a character with a high Agility stat (>7 points).

haha oh man thats a good one. im guessing you're one of the awesome graphics addicts. fallout 3 is bad. really bad. hell oblivion was waay better, at least it had swords. its bad because they didnt care about the game, they just wanted a quick buck from people like you.
if you find crysis good also, please dont give it another try.
If you only save every 40 minutes, whose fault is that? Losing that 40 minutes is your owh fault.
Or did you just expect to never die, like in some modern games?

i'll agree that it wasn't as good (story, environment, atmosphere wise) as the original fallouts, but it blew oblivion out of the water. I freaking hate Oblivion, I liked Morrowind.

Yeah, I have Morrowind and all the expansions, I know where the discs are, they install properly, it's fantastic, but when I go to the store and I look for a game to buy, I see Morrowind and I see Oblivion standing right next to each other.
I think about both, I almost rebuy morrowind because I love it, I almost buy Oblivion to stay current, but I remember the times I played it in the past, when I got bitten by a vampire, and when I got tired of playing because every thing was a challenge.
Heh, well I am not from the younger generation, but I was in the days when fallout was new :) And I remember I got nowhere far in my first attempts at the game... so guys, take it easy. Fallout is a game not so easy to learn.
But they told the truth - you have to take your time. Experiment. Try different things. Sometimes you make a character that has utter problems killing rats, but shines later with that crazy sniper rifle :) A game definetely has its charm, but such charms are often concealed.
Okay, no need to bash just because he didn't like Fallout. It is his opinion, and it isn't "stupid" at all. If he didn't like the beginning parts, then so be it. He was the one who wasted his $5, not you.
But I liked Fallout and I got Fallout 1&2.

nobody is bashing him, sure the remarks aren't going along with what he's saying, but the opinions expressed here are either helpful, or they are comments on society, and not him, himself (unless I missed a post). While he may feel treated unfairly, it may be his own fault.
Do you walk up to Bill Gates face and say "Windows sucks?" no, you don't because you'll have a large community of Windows fanboys, ready to beat him up.
My point is, if he wanted to make waves, he chose the right place, a forum where Fallout is loved, cherished. And you can expect that of all the game forums, they will be dedicated to the game they're about.
