soullessweare: So, I'm beginning to think it might be the GOG version. Twilek, you stated you have run the CD version on 3 other computers, but have you run it on the same computer that causes these problems for you? Maybe you've already said so, but I didn't quite understand what you meant exactly.
No, I actually haven't installed the CD version on the computer where I get this problem, mainly because it takes so much longer to install the cd-version than the gog version. But I'll try that and see what results I get.

One interesting point though is that I also have a hybrid integrated card together with a nvidia card, just like you. On all the other computers where I do not have this problem I do not have hybrid graphic cards. So this hybrid thing may have something to do with it as well.

I'll come back to you when i have tried the CD version on this computer. Stay tuned.

UPDATE: I have now installed the CD-version on the computer with this problem, and I still have the same problem, so it is not the GOG-version that is the problem. It rather seem to be some kind of incompatibility with these hybrid cards. Maybe shall contact nVidia about it...

UPDATE 2: After some research I found this post with almost the same problem as this and with a solution for the problem http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Display-and-Video/Games-running-in-lower-resolution-than-the-desktop/td-p/3795184
Unfortunately this solution didn't work for me though. Can you try it out and see if it works for you?

... and btw, thanks both to you and Ergos for the support ;)

Hi. I've just tried this solution but it doesnt work. Actually, in my graphics control panel every other resolution than 1920*1080 seems to be set to 'scale full screen' already, by default.

Also, I've triede accessing the graphics control panel through its hotkeys (ctrl+alt+f11) while playing the game. My desktop resolution was set to 1366*768 (which scales full screen while looking at the desktop and applications like movieplayers, text formatting, etc) and the widescreen mod was set to the same (I've tried different combinations as well with the same result. My purpose wasn't for the two resolutions to be the same, just for the desktop resolution to not be native, as in native resolution the graphics control panel doesn"t even have the option 'scale full screen). The moment I start the game the desktop stops scaling and gets the black bars all around (I can see this for like half a second before the Black Isle video starts). However, when I access the graphics control panel it claims to be set to 'scale full screen' all the same. WEIRD HUH?

This, in combination with the fact that everything works fine (but ugly) without 3D acceleration, lead me to believe that there's nothing wrong with my integrated graphics but with the 3D card instead. So, I forced the game to run on the integrated card only (it's an option in my nVidia control panel). But it made no difference.

So, since it's not the GOG-version and not everybody is complaining about this, it must be something about the hybdrid setup. Does anybody know how to permanently disable the integrated chipset without doing the same to the rest of my laptop?
I've found a set up that works for me. I just hooked up my laptop to televison. It still has black borders, but the visible screen's a lot larger than my laptop screen anyway :D

Nice! See, you found a viable solution. Granted not everyone wants to hook up their laptop to their TV but still, with the direction everything is heading (Steam machines, current-gen consoles like Xbox One and PS4) everyone is competing for your living room TV. It's refreshing when you actually find a solution instead of arguing w/ other users lol.

To everyone else, my recommendation is to simply shell out the $ and get the Enhanced Edition of BG 1 & 2 (aka BG:EE). The graphics look much much better, even better than adding so called "HD mods" to plain BG. Also, BG:EE was made to scale to higher resolutions yet look great, so you can have accelerated graphics on your nice big screen. You might balk at that idea because you've already paid for the game in the past. Well you can try modding plain vanilla BG but if something doesn't work right because the game doesn't play well with your new cutting edge technology well there's only so much we here on the forums can do to help. Plus you get extra characters to find etc. It was worth it, I had a great time playing through BG1:EE and am now playing BG2:EE. To each his own, I guess.

I bought it some time ago but it had some major scaling problems as well, a.k.a. 'where's the GUI?'. I see they do regular updates so I'll try it again.

Edit: It seems to work fine now. I'll give it a go once I've found what I can do mod-wise.

BiG World Setup would for the most part automate this process. One just needs to install both games, enter the path locations, enters the correct resolution if using the widescreen mod, select the game one wishes to mod & either select one of the predefined megagamods or the individual mods one desires to install. BiG World Setup then automatically downloads, extracts & installs the mods.

installation without the need to edit further files and much more…

Hey guys,

I've got some issues with : Baldur's Gate Trilogy-WeiDU 1.18

I've got my BGI from Beamdog >>> Can it be the problem?

Mawylin: I've got my BGI from Beamdog >>> Can it be the problem?
Yes. You can't use (or need) BGT with the enhanced edition.

Well, Thank you.

F*ck it. I take BG2 on Beamdog too.
Does anyone know of another location to download the Baldur's gate 2 fixpack? Gibberlings is down and the mirror in the OP doesn't work either...

G3 often has connection problems. It's back up now, so try again.

Still down for me. But I'll keep trying, thanks.

It looks like it's the forums that are experiencing problems. For example, if you go to http://gibberlings3.net/bg2fixpack/ the page loads fine, but if you follow the download link (which leads to the forums) the page is all screwy. Trying later, and possibly clearing your browser cache, is the way to go.
Gibberlings3 links are all dead and the "emergency mirror" is 404.

I'm don't have the patience to go through 21 pages of posts to find the answer. Are these mods/fixes/patches still out there? I've never played BG before and I would really like to play the whole thing start to finish seamlessly.

Can anyone help me out?

The answer is in the post above yours: be patient.
